One of the other posters mentioned that Spiderman was effectively Superman in this movie: He just relied on his physical power. Except for the one scene with Venom, he never really used any of his other abilities--super hearing, brains, etc. That makes some sense when he's in the black suit, but not as much when he is in the red and blue.
I think the Eddie Brock character ahs the most potential for development. He's supposed to be the anti-Peter Parker. But the movie never brings that out. They're so concerned about making Eddie into a jerk that we can hate that they don't make him at all pitiable when Peter ruins his career and steals his girl.
