1980 Empire RSO 2 LP set (Released)

I’m sure alot of you know that the original ‘Empire Strikes Back’ LP soundtrack from 1980 has never been released on cd. Just so there’s no confusion this is the John Williams/London Symphony Orchestra version. The cover has Vader’s helmet set against a starfield. It was a gatefold cover with an attached booklet featuring photos from the film along with some notes from John Williams about each track. There was a butchered version of this soundtrack released years ago on cd. Only half the tracks were included. Does anyone know where I can get the un-edited version of this?

as far as i know of of the missing tracks were included in the anthology set but resequenced to more acuretely follow the film. i myself wish the was a LP rip to cd for the two lp set, but that would probably be unessary because you have the anthology set, then the rca 2 disc empire, and then the sony 2 disc.

pdfs of the booklets from all three original star wars soundtrack lp's would be nice.

star wars did have a 2 cd release from polydor but was missing the fox fanfare, plus i think it was missing the cantina song and as far as i now did not exactly follow the sequensing of the lp set.

yes the original return of the jedi cd and lp are a disgrace i own them so very short in terms of tracks. and empire i wont even go there single cd with the tracks all out of order.

i have star wars on reel to reel as well as the story of star wars unused, wish i could come up wish the cash to get them transfered.

I have the 2 record set. A few years ago I did a straight copy to CD. However, I plan on re-doing it and running it through some snap, crackle & pop software to clean it up as much as I can. Actually, I plan on doing it for the 2 record Star Wars set and the Jedi set as well, if I can find the time. You can fit the full soundtrack on 1 CD, so it's a nice listen.

How about the 1997 soundtrack releases? Those are the best out there, does the LP differ from those, too?

Yes, it does. If i remember correctly the final track (rebel fleet/end title , but i can't remember what it was called on the LP) contains a longer version of the rebel fleet music than has been released on any of the CD's and i'm sure there are more differences too. hopefully 20th Century Mark can confirm this because it has been a very long time since i have heard the Double LP version.

Before I open my big mouth again claiming I have something I don't , is this the LP set you're referring to?

If so, then yes I have a copy of this also. It's only been played a handful of times and even though the album cover is somewhat worn, the records themselves are still in pretty good shape

The tracks on the LP that have different cues are as follows:

Star Wars (Main Theme) - side 1

The Heroics of Luke and Han - side 1

Departure of Boba Fett - side 2

Rebels at Bay - side 3

Those are the ones that I'm aware of. Is it possible for you 20th Century Mark to post your copy as an mp3 file?

Sorry skyjedi22005. I meant for this to be included with the last post I made. What I was going to say was that I have the 2 cd Polydor soundtrack. From what I remember none of the old vinyl OST's from back in the day had the Fox Fanfare. The cd DOES have the Cantina Band song (track #9 disc 1). I didn't have the 1st pressing of it when I was a kid. It was still the RSO version just not the first pressing. I'm not sure if the Polydor 2 cd set follows the first pressing of the vinyl but it does follow the LP I had years ago.

The Polydor 2 cd set does pop up occasionally on ebay.

The LP (at least the version I have- not sure if there are multiple versions) does not have the Fox fanfare. The Polydor release follows the same sequence as the LP. Both have the main cantina song, neither has the second song, which was first released on the anthology.

Edit- I see that Marvel2112 posted while I was composing mine.

I am ripping my CD to MP3 (320kbps) and will post it as a torrent on Demonoid if you want. Remember, this is a straight copy. No restorations have been made. However the records are in pretty good shape.

Can people please use FLAC or SHN?

Yeh, is there any chance you could use flac for these? I would make a better quality source for restoration

It is close but not all the same. The box set has extended trax, and different cues.
