The media has spoken with their silence. It's okay for black people to be clearly racist; it's not even okay for white people to say something that can be construed as racist.

For example, whatever else you think of Rush Limbaugh, his Donovan McNabb remarks were crticical of sports media; yet they were said to be racist and Limbaugh was put through a verbal ringer on TV and the Web.

And yet you have people like that moron in MontCalm's post, or Ward Churchill, who can aparently say whatever they want with impunity from their bosses or contemporaries. The rules are made up as we go, it seems. Is it good Don Imus is gone? Maybe. But why do we crucify him for one remark when people like Rosie O. Donnel can spew hatred for Jews, Christians, Lions, Tigers, Bears, and everything else under the sun on "The View" and not get fired?

Simple. She didn't say anything racist against black people or bigoted towards homosexuals, which seem to be the only unforgivable sins in media.

Hmm....about Darth Chaltab's avatar...did you ever notice...?

It can be pretty nasty sometimes (like the snuggles sketch), but when it is good it is really good. I thought that Black Stallion sketch was a great commentary on the present race issue.

Well at least you aren't a Jew there is someone everywhere that hates them.

I suppose that is true. Still, as a white single male in his mid thirties, and a Star Wars nerd, and a Mormon, and a virgin (gasp!!) society gives me quite a beating! But I'm ok with it. I like who I am.

I was reading Viktor Frankl's Man's Search For Meaning a few months ago and I was struck by many conflicting emotions. At first, I was angered by the actions of the Nazis. Then I was depressed how so many people with good hearts and good intentions would allow so much hatred to enter their hearts and justify the persecution, torture and murder of others. Lastly, I had the unexpected impression that I'd rather be the Jew in the concentration camp than the Nazi who was abusing him there.
Anyway it was a remarkable book.

Where was I going with this? Oh, yeah. Fighting fire with fire usually ends with everybody and everything getting burned. Use water. Using hatred to fight against hatred only infects those armed with the hate. Before you know it, they have destroyed all around them as well as themselves. Use love and forgiveness.

Are you really a mid-30's virgin? I ain't trying to knock on you or nothin', but I would believe that is very rare.

He is a Mormon, so I can believe it. I spent most of my childhood years growing up around Mormons. Even had a temple in my home town. They are very, very, very moral people. I swear, if the world consisted only of Mormons, the world would be as near a perfect place as imaginable, from the standpoint of very little crime, no aids, no illigitimate children (but droves of ligitimate ones! We are talking like quadruple the current population!). I have to hand it to them on that part, they raise very good and level headed kids. I was a preacher's kid and there was no end to the trouble I could get myself into. My Mormon friends kept me in check (kind of a positive version of peer pressure "You don't want to do that, you're going to get yourself in trouble! Come on, lets go play on the swings... You know you want to! Everybody else is doing it..."). I am pretty sure I was the only kid on the block (other than the hot girl with the single mother) who was not a Mormon.

It is pretty stupid society beats on middle ages white nerdy virgins, but considers is fairly common and mostly okay for a 15 year old to become pregnant and perfectly acceptable for her to have three more kids by the time she reaches 25 and still no husband from any of the four fathers...

Why is Howard Stern allowed to what he does then, hmm? I smell a double standard.

Perhaps "okay" may not have been the best word, but come on, you have to admit while the former gets movies made about them making fun of them, and generally get laughed at and called loosers. The later is met with sympathy, and even at times with heroic admiration. While she may be met with pity by some and even contempt, who makes fun of her? And laughs at the very idea of a single 25 year old with 4 kids? Even a 20 year old virgin is often afraid to admit it out of fear of being made fun of.

I went out on a call the other night where a pregnant 16 year old girl was fighting with the father of her 2 year old kid because he didn't want his kid around the other guys kid that she was about to give birth to. Of course it was all over the phone and he was in Bryan, TX so I couldn't talk to him. It's a shame.

It's not so much that a 15 year-old having kids is considered okay, it's that kids today are encouraged by peers and certain moronical elements of the media to have sex and not give a flip about the consequences.

Back to the original subject, anyone watching the debate between Al Sharpten and Imus' former producer, Bernard McGuirk, on the Fox News show Hannity and Colmes? It is funny as hell, McGuirk as already called Sharpten a media hound and sensationalist.

I wouldn't say they are encouraging, but their is little discouragement from certain portions of the media.

Sure they are encouraging it. Seen any teen dramas lately? Ever watch the WB? The media glorifies sex and rarely mentions the consequences. By making it so appealing and casual they encourage kids to have sex, which in turn is what causes 15 year old to become pregnant. My not be directly saying to a fifteen year old, "hey go get pregnant", but it is not all that far from it.

Please give me an example of where an underaged character had sex on the CW (WB is defunct, C3PX) and has had no consequences. Pretty much any time an underaged character has sex on any TV show, they're either wracked with guilt, wind up pregnant, are tearing their lives up with drugs, are prostitutes, are rape victims, or generally have a shitty life. Give me a specific example of where underaged characters are encouraged to have sex in a consequence-free environment.

Would you then agree that there is considerable discouragement from certain other portions of the media? If you say that certain portions of the media, while not encouraging it, are not going out of their way to discourage it, aren't other portions actively discouraging it? It seems to me that the only point of view, that of encouraging underage sex, the one that's being suggested is rampant, is actually absent.

You all are making some pretty damning accusations here, so you need to be sure of what you're saying.
