This is a new thread for my Spinal Tap preservation. Volume 1, 2, and now 6 are done!

Here is the completed cover for Volume 6 (Yes, I skipped 3-5, I’ll visit them next):

This is a double single-layer DVD set that includes:

  • The entire Florida concert from the 1992 tour. (Audience CAM Shot)
  • The Mtv News report of the Drummer Auditions
  • Audio clips from the 900 Spinal Tap call line
  • Soundgarden cover of a famous Spinal Tap tune
  • DVD-Rom content including 1992 TV appearances thankfully found on Youtube (Hopefully better versions will be unearthed.)

Omnibus, off the bus...

Also, to respond to some of the PM's I've received, the menu is dark and black for a reason. Most Tapsters know this.

"It's like a pastel black."

Forgive me if this was answered in the other thread. Will the captions (names, places, etc.) be burned in like the original film (and, I think, the Criterion disc but I'm not sure) or will they be on a subtitle track (like the MGM)?

Oh, and thanks!!!

I used the SE video, since it's better, and burned in the titles with Womble since I don't like forced software subs.

Since you've started a new thread for this release, can you update your first post with a full list of this disc's features?

Volume 1 of the Spinal Tap Omnibus is complete! Now it is time to move onto Volume 2: Special Features. After Volume 2, is complete, things will start to get interesting.

Ack, you beat me to it. Looks like the reunion performance and the Rob Reiner video would both be worthy additions to Disc 2.

This is fantastic! Great work. Will this be torrented or newsgrouped? Also, how can we get the cover art? Is it on here for download? Thanks for all your hard work.

The disc *will* be made available. However, all the material is available through commercial means, and I'd like to adhere to forum rules, so I'll have to let others get the word out on when and where it will be available. So far, I have had one offer to "spread the disease" so to speak, so they'll have to get the word out when they can help you all out. To give you some insight, I prefer to get discs from newsgroups.

As for cover art, it's included in the DVD_ROM content, along with some other suprises. Volume 2 will contain all the special features from the Criterion release and the MGM Special Edition (I like to keep everything in one place). Volume 3 is where things will get interesting... I have some sweet things up my sleeve.

Thanks for the Spinal Tap reuniting article! It's about time they reunited again. For legal reasons, they have to appear every so often. (Listen to the actor commentary on this disc to find out why.)

Might as well to keep
StudioCanal happy!

Heh, I just happen to noticed "Anchor Bay Entertainment" is no more, after getting bought by Liberty Media, they changed the name of that famous label to "Starz Home Entertainment". Lame!

Anyone know how to grab this? I'm assuming it'll be around later in higher quality, but I'd like to grab it before it disappears.

Well, Volume 2 is almost complete. Here is the title menu:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c68/ThatArtGuy/STO_Vol2.jpg

Now the cover and disc art needs to be completed, and it will be finished.

This Dual-Layer disc will contain all the special features from the Criterion and MGM releases of This Is Spinal Tap. There is material that is presented on both releases, but was kept for completeness. The disc was over a single layer with the weeding of redundant material, so keeping it wasn't a problem. Also, the audio bit rate was better on the Criterion, but the video is better on the MGM release, so you can choose which one you want to watch.

This disc includes:

Criterion special features:
- The first appearance of Spinal Tap on TV 5 years before the film (straight from the laserdisc)
- The 20 minute demo that the creative team shopped around to film studios
- The Cheese Rolling Demo shopped around to theater owners
- The Cheese Rolling Trailer
- Over an hour of deleted scenes (some differing from the MGM)
- Heavy Metal Memories Commercial
- Hell Hole Video

MGM SE special features:
- Catching Up with Marty DiBergi
- Flower People Conference (different capture than Criterion)
- Heavy Metal Memories Commercial
- Spinal Tap on the Joe Franklin Show
- Movie and TV Trailers
- Over an hour of deleted scenes (some differing from the Criterion)
- Rock N Rolls Commercials
- Music Videos (Gimme Some Money, (Listen to the) Flower People, Big Bottom, Hell Hole)

OH, and more DVD-Rom content...

It was probably for the best to do it this way, though I know I would've probably just lump in whatever from either release into one grouping for my DVD effort than to split them apart, but I can see how much a headache it would've been trying to be a completist in that fashion (better off tracking down that 5 hour rough cut of the film if ever to get into serious geekdom).

It's still easy to find everything on the disc.

Oh, and the workprint is eventually coming, now that I'm finally done with all the "official" material. Check future volumes.
