thunderball international version was released on laserdisc in 1989, what country?

its not a japan laserdisc by any chance is it or a pal laserdisc?

i know about the 1993 connery collection one in connery collection II.

where can i find the 1989 release info, there is nothing on laserdisc database about it.

ah the first deluxe letterbox series from mgm/UA, yes i've heard of that. one of my buddies on ebay sells a lot of those titles sealed and not sealed.

i Have the deluxe CAV laserdisc THX set of thunderball which is identical to the dvd release of the special edition. I bought my copy sealed too bad it was'nt during the original release because i can no longer send away for the free poster repro.

Very cool poster the original theater copies go for big bucks now, its the same one on the back of ash's cover he made for your project. Bond with the Rocket pack, the girls, and the underwater scene with spear guns. three scenes or a tri-poster.

by the way i really appreciate the work you did on the three banned bonds of preserving the legacy of Terrence Young, through the commentary, and the repro of the CAV discs onto dvd because these were the only approved versions by Terrence before his death.

Thunderball was my fave bond film as a kid as i was very imaginative back then, and really thought the underwater sequence was cool and the rocket pack. Plus bonds care was more than words could describe, i was just wowed by the whole thing as a kid because i'd never seen anything quite as imaginative or fun except for star wars or indiana jones.

Perhaps this has been addressed, but why aren't you using the new Lowry transfer for the video while using the audio from the LD? This seems to be that it would be the finest representation of the movie.

Neil

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

Author

Duh ? The Lowry transfert lacks all the original photography colors. It's almost black & white when compared to the SE. The real movie looks like the SE (or the LD).

<<<<----CANCELED---->>>>

Due to a very poor video transfer from my current model of Laserdisc Player, I have CANCELED my preservation project of "Thunderball".

I think that a "preservation" should be presented at the best possible quality.

My laserdisc player issue should not affect any of my other projects.

Again sorry to the people looking forward to this.

What model LD player are you using? Are you having laser-rot problems with the Thunderball discs themselves?

Where were you in '77?

This is not a "Rot" problem.

I've been using a Pioneer CLD-D504 with S-video out via to Sony Handycam, then out via 1394 firewire into PC.

This is the same player I used to make the Banned Bond set.

If you all feel that video transfer of the three films on those "Banned Bond" DVD-r's is ok, then I will consider going on with this...

I may be a bit unrealistic on the type of quality I am trying to obtain from a Laserdisc.

Personally, I'd rather have a "Banned Bond" quality version of this film than none at all. They were about as good as most Laserdisc rips I've seen - unless you plan on buying an X0 of course

I'm looking forward to this for the extras as much as the transfer of the film itself. Please don't give up.

FF, I'm up there with Klokwerk !
The extras have as much value as the transfer itself and I feel the Banned Bond transfers were IMHO as good as possible !

Please don't give it up ! I'm one of the very few that truly hated Casino Royale as a Bond Movie and the Banned Bond Set along with the Thunderball preservation really make it up for me !

Take a look here.

Well I'm sorry, but I like the deeper darker tones on the actors skin, and not that new washed out look on the new print.

Where has that Island Tan gone Mr. Bond?

As the dvd-times screencaps show the image in the SE is distorted, making people appear thinner.
(Moonraker SE has the same issue.)
.
Also the image of the SE appears to be be zoomed in - There is image missing on all four sides.
.
I own both dvd's and prefer watching the UE. (I do use my remote to add color to the UE - a lot of color...)
.
I wonder if the laserdisc transfer combines the color scheme of the SE and the unzoomed image and correct undistorted image of the UE...

A laserdisc screenshot would be nice.

The Laserdisc version has more picture information on it's left side and bottom.

Yes the Laser image looks like SHIT (drab and full of artifacts), and that is why I am having second thoughts about completing this project.

Fanfiltration, please don't quit because of the LD's quality. I'm still interested in it and I know others would be. Besides, you said there are some scenes in the LD not available in any other version didn't you?

No, it's all the same film. It was the extra picture information on the right and bottom I must have spoken about in my original posting. And also I was including a reconstruction of a scene with footage from the trailer. The audio track is what has the major changes. I have about 97% of the isolated score matched up with the film. I was also going to include the most complete 1950's T.V. version of C.R. as an extra.

Isn't there a program that will allow you to merge the images together, use the color values from the DVD but add the LD footage to it?

Like Klokwerk I'm very much interested in your take on this preservation project.
That is the way I see it, preservation, and I'm all for it. Your project might not be the definitive edition, but I don't care : up until DVD came out I was delighted with my VHS copy of the film which I new was light years from perfect.

Please don't give up !

And by the way : the C.R. TV version is a must as a bonus !
