Consider that most systems in every modern car are also run by computer chip now. Not simple mechanics and chemical processes like cars from the 70s and earlier. An EMP would likely take away your ability to drive home. For those with long commutes in sprawling suburban areas, we may be talking a couple-day hike just to get home.
