which will be followed by audience Q&A. Tickets are sold out, but if you are going to be attending, someone be sure to ask George if that mega bombad, 9-disc Star Wars Ultimate Box Set is going to be coming out this year on DVD. Ask him what he thinks about the whole Blu-ray/HD-DVD thing too if you get the chance. And, of course, be sure to let us know what he says.

30th anniversary screening! Writer-director George Lucas’s space fantasy, combining the excitement of classic Hollywood adventure with groundbreaking visual effects, spawned two sequels and three prequels, and helped change the way movies are made; 30 years later, it is still the second-highest grossing film of all time at the U.S. box office. The film received a Special Achievement Award for Ben Burtt Jr.’s creation of the alien, creature and robot voices as well as ten nominations overall

Too bad this won't be the version shown.

This is so lame that they are showing the SE version, and it really is the only thing that pisses me off about what Lucas has done the SW movies. I can live with the PT the way it is, and I can even live with the SE as an alternate version for younger fans with ADD, but a screening to commerorate the 30th Anniversary of SW, should actually be the version that was shown in 1977!

The headline should read: Come watch the 10th Anniversary showing of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

I went last night. I despised it. What was shown was not a 30 year old movie, instead it was a digitally projected version of the master used for the 2004 release. Sure it was HD, but it had the ridiculous color scheme that the DVD is known for and worse still it had that atrocious 2004 sound mix.

The Q&A was fun though. Lucas left after only a few minutes, so Gary Kurtz got to be the center of attention. I'd rather hear what he had to say, anyway. And Mark Hamill was bored out of his mind and squirming and fidgeting the entire time, and that was entertaining, too. The best part was when he was sitting like Al Bundy. No lie!

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

Nice to see you again, Neil.

I'm curious, were you sitting in front of Hamill?

No, I was on the other side of the theater. I meant when he was on stage for the Q&A. I'm not even sure he was in the theater for the movie.

Was he on something? He's an actor right? I guess it was beyond him to at least ACT like he wanted to be there.....still I wish I could of seen that, sounds like it was a funny sight.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

It's funny...when I went to see the latest Robotech film in the theater, they had a Q&A, and I lamented the fact (jokingly) that Hamill wasn't there. I guess I didn't miss out on too much, then.

Hey, don't diss Hamill, he is a cool guy and usually very considerit of his fans (from what I have heard). I would rather meet him over Ford, Lucus or Carrie (Carrie today, not Carrie in 77) anyday.

Well at least George must now be undeniably aware of the colouring problems on the new transfer. Incredibly dumb that its the SE. Neil, did anyone have anything interesting to say? What did Lucas talk about?

It wasn't the 1997 SE though. It was the 2004 version. At least the 1997 version had a sound mix that at least resembled Star Wars. The current mix doesn't. Between that, the longer edit and the to clear picture with weird coloring, I found the movie extremely boring and couldn't wait for it to be over.

Most of the stories were ones we'd heard before. There seemed to be a good camaraderie between the effects guys. There was a lot of discussion with them and Kurtz, and I really enjoyed that. Carrie Fisher said the "mynock" resembled a vagina. Mark Hamill told a funny story about how the background actors (he hates the term "extras") were saying off-color comments while they were filming the walk down the throne room. He said once he explained the movie to them and what was going on in the scene, they stopped. The mixers on the film talked about the time crunch they were in mixing the movie (8 pm to 8 am, 7 days a week for 7 weeks).

Think of it this way guys: for those of you that missed it, he'll pry put it in theaters within the next some odd amount of months.

Does anyone have a transcript of the Q and A? Were there any conversation highlights?

Did Alan Ladd Jr, who I think SHOULD attend CELEBRATION IV so we can give him a lenghty round of applause for recognising talent in 1973, have anything to mention?

Ladd was much more interesting last night at the Julia screening.

The Star Wars - Episode IV - A New Hope SE screening, despite the horrible movie was the real Celebration IV. The amount of true talent and pioneers that were there was staggering. Even though he wasn't announced, Phil Tippet was even there. All sorts of original Star Wars effects people and technicians were there. It was a fantastic crowd. No friggin' Daniel Logan or chumps like that.

Was Phil Tippet involved with Star Wars? I know that Rick Baker was... What were they all doing there? Did Lucas say anything vaguley interesting?

"Now properly identified as Episode IV: A New Hope" ha! I SAW it first that way and it STILL sounds wrong to me!

Or at least, how they said it - it should've said "Now referred to" IMO.

He animated the chess game.

The transcript is not complete. They censored out Carrie's description of the mynock (she said it looked like a vagina) and Mark Hamill said what the backgraound extras were saying. That language has also been cut.

I love Luke's story on the release and reaction. Must be cool to sneak into a theater to see your own movie.
