If you believe in the devil, which you would have to to see him as a neutral guy, because if you see him as purely mythological that makes him an invented character with a purpose which is to be evil. It is funny to hear you talk about wanting scientific findings then to mention the devil being an okay guy in the same sentence. If the devil is real, what is to say he cannot posses (or give orders for other demonic forces to posses) people?
I am by no means superstitious, I am a pretty skeptical guy. There are even times I have a hard time believeing in God, and when I hear people talk about having their life rescued at the last minute by an angel who poped up for a mere second, or about somebody being possessed by an evil spirit my tendancy is to want to laugh out loud. I don't take things lightly and believe all I am told. But there are things I have seen myself, and things that have been witnessed by very close friends of mine. Friends who I have been in life and death situations with and trust wholeheartedly with my very life. These things are qute unexplainable by science, things that make it very hard for me not to believe in God, or at the very least supernatural forces of some kind.
And not to go all Greek on you and all, but I found this quote funny,
"An idiot for my own beliefs?" funny because the Koine Greek word "idios", which is were we get the word "idiot" means, one's own, belonging to one, personal, one's own way, one's own self. When used as an insult or accusation, it is accusing one of being stuck in their own ways. Close minded and uninterested in enlightenment. Anyway, just thought that quote was funny, since ones own beliefs is very closely related to the root of this word.
"I think the forums would be a lot better off without both you and Rob."
I highly disagree with this ^, though Rob is pretty annoying with posting half naked men on everythread. He would be an okay guy if he wasn't doing that and always pretending to be gay for the sake of attention. But as for Sean, I enjoy having him around, he brings some much needed diversity to these boards and he keeps things lively. The whole conservative - liberal thing he has going on is a little extreme though, but he is not the only one around here guilty of this. Life is not a chess match. It is not always us verses them. You can't categorize the world into two categories. The reason why the terms conservative and liberal are so common use in our society is that everybody has a hard time thinking on their own. They would rather let somebody else do the thinking for them, they also like to have options in this. In the end they just lean to the side that they like the sound of the most or fits their upbringing the best. Thinking is important. Anybody who thinks for themselves is bound to find some good things in both the liberals side and the conservative side, that fact that it so often goes everything or nothing is a pretty good indicator not enough people are thinking on their own. The fact that you have people who say the other news channels are crap and Fox News is the only reliable one and others who claim Fox is the most biased pile of tripe and that if you want to know anything you have to watch CNN or MSNBC, proves this. We are relying on others for our data, instead of going out and finding it on our own. We are all being told what to think, and part of that which we are told to believe is that the liberals/conservatives don't think for themselves, but our side does. Stalemate.
