the youtube trailer is amazing. I think I understand it is "your" content (edit, etc.)
The trailer on YouTube is mine but was posted by someone pretending to be me. By RS.com do you mean RapidShare? If so it has already been posted there a while back. The link seems to be still active so here it is:
Originally posted by: Mojo_LAI agree with the poster who said that some of the shots of gunfire between the TIEs and the Falcon feel a bit busy - Adywan, this is primarily what I meant when I was talking about "doing something because you can." I think it's great to have a little bit more back and forth gunfire, but I also found it distracting in that first shot through the window of the TIE. There is a nice rythym and pace to that shot... we stare at the Falcon coming into targeting range... there is a moment of suspense... then BAM the bad guys fire and we're under attack. Having the Falcon firing right from the start really does distract from one of the best shots in the film. I say let the TIEs fire first and then all hell can break loose (which is another point - it's important to let things build up momentum - any battle scene should generally start out small and get bigger - so saving shots of chaotic cross fire for later will have more impact if you SAVE it for later!)
One thing i have never done is add something in "Just because I can". This scene was actually carefully thought out before i started any FX work. The shot you are talking about, from the TIE cockpit view, had the falcon guns firing back because originally it just seemed to be sitting there letting the TIE fire at it without any retaliation, then next shot they are suddenly firing back. Surely they would have started firing at the TIE's the moment they started attacking the Falcon. It's not as if they were caught by surprise.
Originally posted by: Mojo_LAAs far as the readouts go, I do admit the first time I saw them they did feel a bit too "perfect." Even today, despite them being far more advanced, movies still often tend to make computer readouts look "computery" because that's what people excpect and, frankly, I think it looks cooler - especially on the Falcon, where Han has put his money into making the ship fast - I'd bet a fancy targeting readout is the last thing he would spend money on.
Here i think that the Falcon would have had a better targeting display. Having a simple cursor for ship identification would be terrible for a targeting computer display especially in battle where different types of ships would be involved. How the hell would they know which ship they are firing upon or what is approaching them? having a simple wireframe marker that identifies a ship would be a more logical display and for that reason i added the TIE displays.
Originally posted by: Mojo_LAChanging the TIEs to simple markers is a good idea, and I would personally alter the frame rate on the displays to twos (i.e. 12 FPS) so they look a little choppier and low-tech. Just dropping the frame rate and ditching any motion blur (if you're using it) would make the displays look a lot less "perfect."
Just tried your suggestion and it works. The displays look much better now. Thanks

i) when ben is cut down, I see you've subtly changed it so that we see his lightsaber and his hands (nice touch) falls away, away from camera, ie to ben's right. but off course, if I'm being really picky that then creates a continuity error because when ben's cloak collapses to the floor, the lightsaber falls on top of it.
My mistake there. the saber actually falls towards Ben but the saber blade layer was set behind the cloak instead of above it and this gave the impression that it falls to the right. I've now corrected this.
Originally posted by: tellan ii) when the falcon pivots and accelerates away there is a slight jerk between your change and the original shot on the position of the falcon.
An immediate acceleration wouldn't necessarily be a smooth transition so there would be a slight jerk.
I can't actually see what you mean with this shot though. It doesn't look jerky to me.
Originally posted by: tellan iii) when you see Han saying he's going to warm up the guns etc. I know you've changed the starfield, but I'd advise changing the pan so that it's not going so fast.
Yeh, it was too fast. Fixed now.

the first dive on the falcon by the tie's time index 1.29.26.17
if you look REALLY closely, you will see that the topside quad mount on the falcon is putting backwards, ie towards this tie.
but you've got it firing forwards.
OOOPS. Didn't notice that. i guess i need my glasses changed.
I guess you have to be looking pretty close though to spot that so i might leave it as it is.
vii) one or two of the shots where you have TIE's flying past the front windows of the cockpit, I'd eliminate the laser bolts on at least one of those shots.
