The serial numbers were filed of but I hope like hell ATF can identify its lineage. I'm optimistic they will.

Has this been confirmed by the police? Seems a little unnecessary given that he must have known if he didn't kill himself that he'd have been caught.

If the numbers are filed out doesn't it mean he probably got them illegally somewhere? No gun control law would have prevented this tragedy in that case, would it?

No. It means the numbers were filed off at some point. It's quite possible that he filed them off himself.

No gun control law would have prevented this, period.

I wonder how many of the other students have ever been out shooting targets. A Glock is not a complicated weapon to fire or reload. The 22 he had probably isn't complicated either. Being able to quickly shoot and reload with those weapons is not a big accomplishment. Anyone with any exposure to firearms would be able to do so quickly. He wouldn't need more than a few sessions at a shooting range and there was more than enough time for that.
