Any Wii gamers here shouldn't be doing anything other than playing Super Paper Mario. It's an amazing game.

Does it still have turn-based combat like the other Paper Mario games? Because if it doesn't, then I'm gonna have to get it. (I hate turn-based combat with a passion)

It's essentially a classic Mario platformer with RPG elements, whereby one can switch the level from 2D to 3D in order to find secrets and solve puzzles. The only downer apparently, is the ridiculous amounts of dialogue, which while well-written, interrupts the flow of the game.

So it's not really the RPG that its predecessors were. That's what I figured, and, unlike Nanner, I love turn-based combat with a passion. That doesn't mean I don't want to play this, though. It looks like a wonderful new twist on the whole "paper" dynamic.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Bully.

If you have a Playstation 2, you need to play this game.

If for no other reason than to tick off Jack Thompson.

I'm playing through MGS:3 again, because my brother lost my game saves. Now I need to find each one of those frogs again and shoot each one to get stealth again. DAMN!

I absolutely love Bully. It's even more relevant for me since I go to a private school with a dress code (though, thankfully, it isn't even close to the hellhole that is Bullworth Academy).

WW update -

Well, I've been devoting slightly more time to this lately. Just made it into the Tower of the Gods yesterday. What a great game! Thinking of picking up Twilight Princess soon.

BTW: AOTS reported last night on the crawl that Nintendo has 41 Wii and 79 DS games slated for release by Summer's end.

Well, as I have said before, I have not owned a console since my high school and college years, which were back in the N64 era. My buddy is going to buy a PS3 (yuck!) in the coming months, and is giving me his PS2. So I was looking at the store the other day at the PS2 games and trying to decide what games to get. I think for starters I will grab two games, once I beat them I will probably pick up a few more.

I am really thinking Resident Evil 4, it just looks awesome and I heard it is fantastic. While skimming through the games I also saw Shadow of Collossus and judging the book by its cover (front and back) it looks very impressive, though I have not read any reviews on it yet. I really wanted to play Half-Life 2, so I was very disappointed when I saw that they skipped a PS2 port and went directly to PS3.

So, any suggestions on some must have PS2 games with good reply value?

I've played Metal Gear Solid 2 at least 20-30 times. GTA series is fun too. Also Katamari Damacy.

Threepi-X - here's what I picked up when I finally got around to purchasing a PS2 a few weeks ago.

Most, if not all, of these games are highly rated and must-haves.

Games Still At Retail

Shadow of the Collosus - awesome game. Horse control sucks though.
Killzone - Best PS2 shooter.
God of War - You might have heard of this?
God of War II - Makes me want to eat innards from a decapitated goat.
Resident Evil IV - I have it for the GameCube, not PS2, but you should get it anyway.
Okami - Second Best art design ever
Metal Gear Solid 3 - Snake Eater (lol)

Games From Used Stores/eBay

Katamari Damacy - Cool gameplay, quirky Japanese humour and an infectious soundtrack.
Ico - Pioneered isolation and despair in gaming, worth the story alone.
Devil May Cry - Premiere PS2 action title, often imitated.
Metal Gear Solid 2 - Sons of Liberty - just look it up.

Any of these games are going to give you lots of entertainment - there's not a stinker on that list. If you're into Sports games, which I'm not, and of the Madden titles are top rated.

God of War is probably one of the best, if not the best, game on the PS2 (I haven't played the second one yet, but I hear it's just as good).

You can do just about anything except kill people and sleep with hookers.

Thanks Cassidy. Looks like you and I have very similiar taste. Every game I had been somewhat interested in appeared on your list. And I also dislike sports games. I will definately be keeping all those titles in mind. I had completely forgotten about the Metal Gear games.

So, I was looking into God of War a little bit. Being so out of the gamers loop in recent years I had honestly never heard anything about it. I watch a few videos on youtube, and read a bit about it. Wow. It really looks great. Especially the second one. I have always been into Greek mythology, so it would be really interesting to see the developer's take on certain gods.

Now I am starting to think that it is going to be hard for me to limit myself to starting out with only two games...

^ You may not need to!

Check Best Buy, if there is one in your area. They have the Greatest Hits for PS2 right now, 2 for $35 or $19/each.

That way you can get titles like God of War and Shadow of the Colossus on the cheap.

God of War is one of the games that people will be talking about 20 years from now...well, maybe moreso the publicity stunt Sony pulled for the sequel in Europe last week, lol.

Yeah, it's got everything you could want in a premiere action title. It's a major achievement.

Hmm, I might head down to Bestbuy later today. 2 for $35.00, that is pretty good. Thanks Cassidy.

^ No sweat man. They usually have the best deals.

I got SOTC there brand new as part of the deal, and yet EB was charging $35 for a used copy.

They're scheister's anyway and I'd never set foot in there if it weren't for the occasional hidden treasure.

Good luck @ BB.

I love my PS2 and have no intention of getting rid of it for a good few years. The last game I bought was Final Fantasy XII, which is fantastic. Can someone tell me a bit more about Shadow Of The Collosus and God Of War. I've been tempted by SOTC a few times when Ive seen it, and GoW2 has just come out.

This one hasn't been mentioned before. Although I normally hate rhythm games of any kind, the Guitar Hero games are fun as hell. You should at least try them sometime (I like the songs on the first one better, but the controls are improved a little on the second one.)

Shadow of the Collossus a lot of fun. The animation and art direction are unparalleled, though it does tax the PS2 to its limits. The game has you riding across a really huge landscape (far bigger than anything Zelda's ever done), and reaching sixteen different Collosi, which you have to climb and defeat. It gets a little repetitive towards the end, but some of the Collosi are truly amazing, and I'd love to see a follow up for the next generation.

God of War is a straight up action game. Think Devil May Cry with Greek mythology, and that's essentially what you have. You even collect red orbs to buy stuff and green orbs for health like in DMC. Not as much cheesy dialogue though.

Now I am really thinking to pick up God of War and the Shadow of the Collossus, but I still want RE 4. I might have to go with three games instead of two. Maybe four...

Hey, 3PX, if you're gonna get RE4, you might want to wait for the Wii version, since it will have all the content of the PS2 version and the graphics of the Gamecube version.

^ Just to add, if I may - the graphics will be the same as the GC version, but unless you're lucky enough to have the early version that had component out, you ain't seen nothing yet.

I'm anticipating cleaner textures and a sharper image. Plus, I think it will support the native widescreen mode found in the PS2 version.

I've been playing that game lately and I love it. It's like a company has finally recaptured old-fashioned gameplay and fun. It reminds me of the original Castlevania games but only if you were to add button-mashing action and extra reflex-response mechanics. (I'm slowly playing through the game on hard mode since easy too easy.)
