Star Wars Behind the Magic HELP

Author
Time
Hi,

This is my first post on the forum, but I have been reading it with close interest for months now.

I wonder if any of you can help me. I own Star Wars Behind the Magic for PC which as you probably know shows some of the missing scenes from A New Hope.

However, as the years have passed I have moved over to Apple Macs and so I can no longer see the footage!

Does anyone know how I can 'rip' the footage from the CD-ROM. There are several huge files called Bundle.000, Bundle.001 etc.
Win RAR doesn't seem to decompress them! Any ideas, as I am desperate to see this footage again.

Many Thanks
Jambe Davdar

This might be expensive, but have you considered getting Virtual PC? It should work.

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I did a number of Google searches, looking for potential answers to your question.

I came up with nothing.

But, I do have something else. I know its a poor substitute, but its better than nothing.

If you use the menu on the left side, and choose movies, there is a number of Quicktime videos of some cut scenes, such as:
Biggs and Luke on Tatooine
Original Han and Jabba scene (with full sound)
The Tatooine sandstorm that was cut from ROTJ

For some reason I cannot edit.

Sorry, sorry. I just tried the videos I mentioned above, and the links are dead. The movies don't exist there anymore.

Thanks for your suggestions. I did think about Virtual PC. But it is rather expensive and I really want to keep away from Microsoft products these days.

I too have done a thorough search on google and have found several sites with active links to the missing clips. However, for some reason some of them don't playback on my mac.

Therefore I really wanted to go back to the source.

My quest continues....

Actually, thankfully, Virtual PC is just a Microsoft Windows emulator and not actually produced by Microsoft. And it does work very well. Older VPC versions would not play nice with peripherals plugged in via USB or other ports. Now they do. I can use my PC-only MiniDisc software (developed by Sony) on Virtual PC and plug my MD player in via USB and it will all work together well.

Oh, and for those keeping score... that's five Mac aficionados. Three who own and two who are going to buy when the money is made available. Welcome to the "Dark Side" of computing, Jambe.

Brace yourself Bossk.

I am afraid to say that Connectix's Virtual PC was purchased by Microsoft earlier this year.

Microsoft were keen to 'develop' the mac side of their range apparently! Hmm.

I am considering buying it but its quite expensive.

Thanks for everyone's help. It nice to be in the presence of Mac loving Star Wars fans!

Okay. You are in the company of Mac-lovers. Just don't tell Motti. He's anything but.

I had a hunch that Microsoft had acquired VirtualPC. I seem to remember a flyer with an ad for VPC with an MS logo in the corner. Buggers.

That's always the number one way to ruin good software... let Microsoft buy it. It's great for the little garage startups that design it, but bad for those who use it.

Truer words were never spoken (or typed, for that matter).

I would also like to know if the video footage can be ripped from the Bundle files. I used to run Behind The Magic on an older PC, which played the video smoothly, but now on my newer PC, the footage is jerky.

Thanks for getting us back to the original question. LOL.

There must be a way to do it. Perhaps those people that offer it for download used a video out from there PC onto VHS tape, and then with a capture card, captured it back.

Hmm

That would be an easy enough way to do it. Now who has the equipment?

Well, there is another option.

There are programs out there, I think some are even freeware, that are capable of video capture. I think the more advanced version of FRAPS (A Frame-per-second program) is capable of doing this. Whether or not the video would look any good or not, I do not know.

I've never used one myself, so I cannot say for sure.

As into technology as I am, I just never had the desire to try these sorts of vid capture programs. I'm such a novice with that stuff it's scary.

Yeah, I should try Fraps. I've used it before, so I wonder if it will work when the BTM program is running. I will test...
