Go ahead and send the line, Trooperman.

Yeah, the delay was caused not only by real work taking precedence, but by major computer problems and also the fact that I want to rerecord most of the Anakin dialogue to reflect what I've learned about doing ADR.

I agree that Nanner's voice at 17 (lowered a tiny bit) is perfect for Lama-Su. He's an alien and I think my new script combined with your acting created a memorable character that I wouldn't change at all now.

PM sent, Weezer

Some good news- I figured out the Uncle Owen problem. The problem was I was trying to cram too much stuff into the scene. After cutting a line, reversing the order of two lines, and getting the pacing right, the scene plays great. Can't wait for you all to see the intro of C-3PO into the series- as someone mentioned earlier, it really fits in with his "lot in life".

Good stuff!

Cool, Trooperman.

You know, it might tide us over if you posted a *ahem* video.

Don't want to put anymore stress into your schedule, but a video would be nice. Say maybe a trailer, perhaps?

Ha ha! That could possibly be arranged....

I don't want to do another trailer until I lock the video, though- otherwise it's too time consuming and what you see isn't necessarily what's in the final cut.

TM, a clip would be great, but don't think it is worth it if it will take up a lot of your time. Time that may be much needed in the real world or in completing the SOTDS.

I just watched AOTC with the Rifftrax audio commentary posted at the rifftrax site. Funny stuff...and it reminds me of how much the theatrical version sucks, so I can't wait to see this version!

One thing audio related that jumped out at me (again) was 3PO's referral to Anakin as "Master Annie" on two different occasions. He calls him "Master Anakin" in TPM, and for some reason forgets all his "protocol" programming and calls his maker by a nickname in the sequel.

Any plans on changing his lines for this edit? In the greater scheme of things, it seems like a fairly easy fix since we have dialog of 3PO saying "Anakin" from the first flick.

Just something that bugs the hell out of me and wanted to see if this was on the list.

the whole subplot not really in episode II... but firmly in the deleted stuff not on the dvd... was that Anakin was still being seen as a child by everyone... apparently including 3PO lol...

I dunno... just putting that in there...

Is it not sad that in this time, we are more surprised by acts of love than acts of hate?

If Trooperman has his way, the whole "Master Annie" issue with 3P0 will be moot-- because Anakin won't have ever met 3P0 before.

But that's a tough one to pull off-- so if he has to keep the whole "Anakin built 3P0" backstory from Phantom Menace, it would be a good idea to change "Anni" to "Anakin."

...And to reduce a lot of the mugging and weirdness from that reunion scene. Anakin should be walking across Tatooine like a gunfighter with revenge on his mind-- but he comes off pretty slack in AOTC.

Anyone got ideas for nailing that scene?

Speaking of Threepio, here's some interesting info regarding that whole "Anakin builds Threepio" back story.

Link

It's interesting because it plays into the whole Anakin being obsessed with fixing things and resurrecting people from the dead, immortality and all that stuff that comes out in ROTS. Just knowing that little snippet of information, for me, suddenly makes Threepio way more relevant and a lot less cheezy.

Too bad it was never included in the story.

WOW, Infodroid. I have to get that book.

That's a way better backstory to Threepio-- maybe Trooperman can work THAT in with the new Anakin voice.

"You finally have armor again. You look as good as the day I found you." That kind of thing?

But wow. That would have made so many people happier with TPM. Grrrr.

Yet another example of George having a great back story and not even coming close to filming it.

Hmm, sounds like revisionist history to me. Not saying that it could not be true, but given the track record of the whole honesty thing regarding the ever changing history of star wars, I'd say we have a pretty good reason for believeing those notes are not really from the 1970s.

Nah, it's easy to take 3PO out of the prequels. Is he not taking 3PO out of the prequels?

He is only doing Episode II, but last I read he was going to introduce Threepio is Owen's droid who nobody wants because he is so eccentric. So Anakin will not have made him, but he will end up still being Padme's droid by Ep. III. The idea is that whoever makes the Ep. I edit that precedes SOTDS will remove him completely so that the introduction in SOTDS will be the first time we meet him.

He still goes with them to Geonosis. When SOTDS gets released you will see he put a lot of thought into his idea, and I really think it will work. It will be pretty humorous too.

Sorry guys- I was out of town and then my power went out (it's still out). So....

C3PX put it really nicely- nobody wants 3PO and Anakin/Padme take him along with R2 to Geonosis. Kind of fits with his "lot in life". Then, R2 and 3PO argue, and what happens is that the headstrong R2 goes in to try to help Anakin and Padme, while 3PO stays on the ship and misses out on all of the fun.

I think this fits better with the original SW. You' remember 3PO's attitude when R2 wants to go a particular way on Tatooine.

"No! I'm not going that way." "You'll be malfunctioning in a day, you near-sighted scrap pile!"

So likewise, in SOTDS, he avoids the danger and doesn't follow R2 (why would he, anyway? They just met. He has no attachment for the droid).

-----------

Lately there was some concern that the 3PO scenes wouldn't work (they felt too "constructed"), but I recently nailed the pacing through a simple dialogue reversal and the removal of a line, and now I'm sure that this is definitely how it will be. No 3PO in Episode I.

And that IS an interesting backstory, but at least at this point I see no way to have it happen both ways....

No 3PO in Episode I.

So I take that to mean no reference to "Master Annie" (or Anakin, for that matter) in SOTDS?

If this is the case, then I approve!

Sorry this is taking so long, guys. All I’m trying to do is lock the video, but I’m running into one stupid MPEG problem after the next. Bizarre glitches I can’t seem to get rid of. What’s happening is in many cases I’m having to encode a file with encoding errors in it and then patch it up after the fact in Womble.

This is taking way more time than it should. If I ever do this again, remind me never to edit directly off of the original MPEG files using Vegas software. I’ve blown so much time as a result of that mistake.

Don’t get me wrong-- I really love this movie now and the creative part/editing was a lot of fun. Again, can’t wait until it’s done and people watch it. But this stupid stuff really tries my patience…

Oh, sorry for not being clear. No, "Master Annie" is never uttered Pretty much all of 3PO's dialogue has been changed using different audio sources.
