Exactly Ferris. That's exactly how I plan to do it. Start with an empty weapon. Teach him the basics of how it works and how deadly it is. Move on to a loaded weapon once he's a little older.

The point is to remove any ignorance about the weapon. Give him an understanding of how they look, feel, and operate. Once the understanding is there, he'll stand a much better chance of handling things correctly if he comes across one in the wrong situation (like finding one randomly in someone elses house).
