For the record, I have a son now. I'll be showing him how to safely handle firearms at a young age (he's 4 months old, as soon as he can hold things is when I start). Children shouldn't, imo, be taught to fear firearms. They at least need to be taught to get an adult if they find one. At best they should be taught how to use and/or disarm one. Even if you don't want your kids using guns, at least teach them to get an adult if they find one. Not knowing what a gun can do and not knowing to get an adult if one is found can be disastrous.
Yeah, I'll teach my children how to you firearms too. I think it is better to understand them and know how they work than to fear them. Also if they have gun training by their dad, and have been allowed to touch and use the things under supervision, I think they are less likely to say "Whoa! A gun! Awesome." and start flashing the thing around if they ever stumble upon one by chance. That is actually a fairly common scenario in gun deaths by children. Fear and lack of understanding is a dangerous thing. This is where we are heading too. I am actually a bit afraid the government is going to get to a point where social services may have a case to look into taking you children away if it comes out that you are an irresponsible enough parent to teach your children how to use a gun.

Yes, the "left" often has an outcry about things like this. One of the reason why those of us on the "right" are getting so fed up with it. We deal with this crap every day. Not to say every leftist is a fanatic about things like that, just that every fanatic like that is a leftist. Apparently, it is better to be less historically accurate in details like that than to show something as awful and unPC as children knowing how to safely handle and use fire arms.
