So my Dad has this crazy idea... VHS set of the original trilogy in the house, somewhere...

That I have a VHS set of the original trilogy (unknown if this is the faces or pan & scan) somewhere in the house. I just wanted to share that, as it makes me very happy that I will finally be able to truly compare it (a VHS I copied from my friend was recorded in EP and has all 3 on it, want to see if I have a real copy.)

The faces set can be pan & scan. It is not too unlikely that you do in fact have a set if your dad says you do. They were very common. If you don't have set, or if you cannot wait to find them, I promise you if you can find a store that sells used VHS you will be able to get a whole set for about $2 a tape. Every time I have been to a store that deals used VHS tapes there have been abundances of the faces VHS tapes and the pre-faces sets.

Actually, there were two sets: 1 P&S, and the other widescreen. The widescreen set came in a large rectangular box with Vader's face on it.

Seriously dude, just find an CD Word, CD Warehouse, and other random used game/video store, Pawn shop, whatever. You can find a full original set very cheap. Would even be worth your time to knock them off. They would cost little more than the price of the blank VHS tapes. I bet all it will take is a phone book or a short search online to find that there are such stores in your area. And it'll only take a couple of brief phone calls to confirm that they have a set of the trilogy on VHS or not.

As much as I'd like to, my parents just don't understand why I want the OT. I might as well be crazy in their eyes, at least on this subjecst.. One copy is enough, they say. I guess I can wait for GL to go back on his word and re-master it. ($10 says he will.)

Kid, I have a P&S Faces set. Give me some sort of mailing address or P.O. box and you can have it. I'm still out of state and will be until next week, so it won't go out until Tuesday.
