Post Office unveils Star Wars stamp set

Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi will do battle one more time — and the emperor, Han Solo, Princess Leia and others will join in the struggle. A set of 15 stamps commemorating the Star Wars movies will be released in May, the Postal Service said Wednesday.

And people will get to vote on their favorite from the set, which will be reissued in late summer or early fall as a single stamp, said David Failor, director of stamp services at the post office.

I'm partial to the one of Luke on Tatooine myself.

They had a big unveiling in front of Mann's Chinese Theater today. Several characters were in attendance.

Very cool

I think those stamps look awesome, and surprisingly few of them were from the PT. I voted on the Luke on Tatooine, myself.

I voted for the Leia and R2 stamp. second fav was Fett.

the quiz test was pretty easy IMO as far as the Star Wars Questions go. I had to guess on one of the post office questions about shipping. but I did pass the test. cool moving (java app) pics with Jabba and R2 on that site.

I sent a copy of a pic I took of an R2 mailbox here in my town of Pasco Wa. too Starwars.com

The quiz is totally easy (for a Star Wars fan anyway). I'm sure most of the questions can be answered by Google if someone needed help anyway. And it seems the USPS questions never have the same answer. So once you get to the last question, there's only 1 answer left.

Hmm, I was expecting something different with the stamps. I guess they are not that bad, but I really am not that impressed. Reminds me too much of the covers from the last three DVD releases, which I have always hated. Some of the stamps are cool, but being for the 30th anniversary and all I was expecting more images that had to do with a 30 year old movie, and less that have to do with a movie only seven years old. At least there was no General Grevious stamp.

Actually, as near as I can tell, out of 15 stamps, only 3 are prequel related. So the majority of the stamps are from the 30 year old movie.

By 30 year old movie I meant just Star Wars, not the sequels. I guess I was expective something very old school looking in, not sure why I was expecting that actually.

I agree. They seem more marketing than they do immortalizing.

Ah great word, immortalizing. Exactly, that is what I was expecting, something the represents the legacy SW has been for thirty years, not another marketing campaign. That the Luke stamp, the Han and Chewie, and the Leia are the type I was expecting. Anybody see the recent D.C. comics stamps? I think I was using those as my standard when I first heard the announcment of the SW stamps. Those were cool because they were not the modern depictions of these heros but they were the classic depictions of them. Not as they are drawn in comics today, but as they were drawn 40 years ago.

Pretty cool. It looks like they were painted by Drew Struzan ... all of them are great, except the Han & Chewie one doesn't really look like Han. I think the Leia/R2-D2 and Luke/sunrise ones are the best.

Yeah, I was looking are a more detailed picture of the Han stamp, he really doesn't look like Ford at all.

I vote for Luke every day (when I remember to). You're allowed to vote once a day for your fave stamp.

The Luke one is the most iconic image, IMO. Some really nice Drew Struzan art there.
