Reverend,

A simple swap of the whole audio track so that we get the uncensored sound with the superior image quality, I think I can handle... Are those both PAL versions ? If not I'll have to experiment with audio speed...

But then again, I can't do anything about the watermark and my menu skills are so so... Anybody willing to jump in ?

As for the workprint, if the quality is not too terrible, then count me in !
Do you expect me to talk ?
No Mister Bond I expect you to DIE !

Put a 1min clip up on Rapid share for you guys to look at, as the reverend said unfortunately it's the censored audio track, not as bad as could be just a case of dubbing over the certain scenes, as far as the water mark goes impossible to get rid of altogether but there is a programme around to blur the water mark ,DeLogo Filter for VirtualDub. but to the subject in hand the clip here is the download link.

By workprint, are you talking about an actual workprint, as in, a rough cut longer than the extended edition? If so, then hell yeah! Is there anything particularly different or interesting?

And btw, when do you plan to upload your copy of the director's cut? Please do so soon. And are you intending to use Demonoid, or Spleen?

as far as the water mark goes impossible to get rid of altogether

Actually, I'd imagine that if both versions become available, some adventurous soul would take the unwatermarked area from the encore version, and lay that over the watermarked area on the sci-fi version. Hopefully they would do some color correction and what not so it fit in nicely, but I think it'd definitely be possible to make it look pretty decent...better than blurring it out, that's for sure. Actually, I prefer watermarks to blurred watermarks...the blurring is distracting as hell.

Judging by the clip that lorang posted, his is actually NTSC, as is mine. So there wouldn't be an issue, I don't think. Just syncing.

Actual workprint, yeah. Rough cut, yeah. Longer than the extended edition, no. It actually runs a bit shy of 120mins, making it even shorter than the theatrical version. I've never watched it all the way through. The image quality is pretty rough. I think it has the Everest ending. How about this: I'll upload a Xvid and if someone watches it and finds reason for me to upload the full DVD, I will.

I've gotta reseed a DEVO DVD over at DimeADozen.org, so I'll do it after that. That process should take two or three days. It'll be on Demonoid, and and probably also tracked on Mininova and TPB. MySpleen's a dying community, I think.

It's been a while since I saw Waterworld, and from what I remember, it wasn't too bad. I would be interested in seeing the workprint, though, so count me in.

Considering that it doesn't sound like there's any extra footage, is there a point to the workprint? It's not like Apocalypse Now where you get a bunch of extra crap...

Looked at it again, it runs 2hrs 13mins. From what I could tell, it's completely lacking in score of any kind, which makes it pretty interesting. I'll be encoding it to Xvid overnight and I'll throw it up on Demonoid tomorrow, won't be as hard to seed as the 2-DVD extended version.

I'm tired and I don't want to read the thread. Is there a definitive torrent of the ABC version or not?

I have always thought Waterworld had a nice Mad-Max-ish feel to it and kinda hoped Universal would give it another chance on DVD someday.

The UK Sci-Fi and Encore captures both have the same content, videowise, except that Sci-Fi has a watermark, but looks better overall than the Encore capture. The Encore version, however, has an uncensored audio track.

And next time, if you're too lazy to read, don't ask someone to take the time to write a post. Come back when you're feeling more energetic.

"Mark Isham's score was reportedly rejected for being 'too ethnic' by Costner"
(from http://www.post-apocalypse.co.uk/waterworld.html)

Does anyone know if Mark Isham's score still exists in some form? This is a long shot since I think he hadn't scored all of the film before being replaced, but: since we have a workprint without the James Newton Howard score, perhaps we could drop Isham's score in?

Just did some quick research and it doesn't seem like any of it's out there in any way. According to an interview I read, he said he scored about 2/3 of the film before Costner fired him from the project. I also asked a couple hardcore score collectors on Soulseek, none of whom had ever come across it. Unfortunate.

So I've stsrted watching this. It has no opening Universal title music, varying degrees of sound, and some subtitles, but it's still watchable. I'll let you know more after I've finished.

Personally, I love the "SCENE MISSING - JAW-DROPPING TRANSFORMATION" title card that shows up seven minutes into the film.

Ha! I never saw that part. That is pretty freakin' great. It's stuff like this why I love workprints. The stuff nobody was meant to see.

Seeders seem to have really dropped off, so I'll keep seeding for a while longer. Look for the first disc of the two disc extended version on Monday, let's say.

Oh but my laziness is undending and infinite.

So...the 2-disc torrent Reverend Beastly is talking about is or is not what I am looking for? Even if it isn't I probably want it...

You've got 5 seeders to two downloaders, so I think you could start seeding the 2-disc set annnnnnyyy time you like.

Reverend,

I must admit that the description of the Workprint did not appeal enough to me to go download it.
I'd rather wait for the extended version. It's hard enough for me to go with full screen, but better this than nothing.

So like Tweaker, you can fire this baby anytime you want, I'm ready !

Well, I was trying to figure out if ReverendBeastly's is the workprint, which it seems it is, which means I still need the ABC cut from somewhere else.

Yeah...I think I misspoke earlier. What he uploaded is the workprint. We're still waiting on the extended cut.

I did a capture of Waterworld from the Bravo broadcast, which includes about half of the deleted scenes (it's a three hour cut WITH commercials). I think it could be used for a coposite edit, provided it looks better/ fits better than other sources. The quality is, of course, much nicer than the sci-fi VHS:

I think the official DVD would be better but not the same aspect ratio, and official VHS may or may not compare. I'd love to see screenshots if anyone has either of those.
