Stuff like this makes me glad Nintendo went the SD Card route again. Relatively inexpensive and can be swapped in and out at will.

Is anyone using their Wii with a surround system? If so, how is it? Do the games make good use of it?

My Wii is currently connected to a mono TV, so, yeah...

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I've got no sound system, just basic stereo TV, so I can't really say how well ProLogic II works for the full set up. It works as well as you'd expect for just two speaker-stereo sound, though.

Can't vouch for the Wii, as my DD5.1 receiver and speakers are still packed up from moving, but I believe it is comparable to the Gamecube, which sounded surprisingly...awesome.

The Rogue Squadron games in particular, if memory serves.

I see no reason why it wouldn't be worthwhile to hook 'er up, especially with Resident Evil Wii now confirmed!

Yeah, my Gamecube always had nice surround sound and I didn't even have a Dolby Pro Logic II receiver. As for Wii, I don't own one yet. Spending all of my money on Magic The Gathering right now. Can't stop . . . .

Does anyone else think that as internet 2.0 becomes more of a reality, and the broadband pipe gets bigger, that physical game media (carts, discs, etc) are going to become obsolete? I think the online delivery of the Virtual Console and XBox LA are proving that it will happen. Just a matter of time. At that point we'll only be limited by the amount of storage space we have (whether it's a traditional HDD or flash, or whatever).

That concept rather scares me. I don't mind the Virtual Console because they are simply old/classic games that have already had a traditional release, so I consider this something of a bonus service. But I really don't like the idea of video games (or movies, for that matter) only being distributed as digital files. I like to have a hard copy, and like someone was saying (was it you, JediSage or was it TheCassidy), there's a worry about owner in perpetuity if that really takes off.

I agree. I hate the idea of games no longer having hard copies. When you think about it, some things are so big that pipe-lining them would be hap-hazard. Also, internet services sometimes fail, and downloading it all to your harddrive would fill up said harddrive fast.

I've got my Wii hooked up to my THX surround receiver and it sounds great. I'd have to go back and check Zelda and Red Steel again, but I can tell you that Wii Sports makes great use of the surround speakers. Specifically in bowling, when you bowl you can hear the people behind you reacting to your bowl. I always chuckle when a gutter ball is bowled and the people in the background start booing.

Heh. I've found Wii sports to be unbelievably loud even in conventional stereo. Much louder than a couple of clicks of volume and it hurts the ears.

Wind Waker update: Well the Fire Dungeon's have finally been completed. Extraordinarily pathetic that it's taking so long to play, but I just can't devote as much time to it as I'd like.

Anyhoo, I've met the Deku Tree and have stopped short of getting the Deku leaf. Had to stop at that point because it was about 5am. I'm enjoying the cel-shaded look of the animation. It's so well done.

Just finished Twilight Princess today--after fifty hours and a four-stage boss fight against the King of Evil.

Made it into the Forbidden Forest. I tell you, as someone who's afraid of heights, they did an excellent job making the "higher" locations VERY convincing. Moving along nicely now. Might go home for lunch and play it!

Well, I beat Twilight Princess in 34 hours

I popped in Wind Waker last night to see if I could remember anything about it. Nope, but I did realize that I never started the second quest so...

I do have to say though, when I first played it I had my Gamecube hooked up to an SDTV and I just never thought the graphics were that great. But seeing it for the first time on my 50" HDTV via the Wii component cable, I can really appreciate the cell shaded graphics. This is really one of the more visually stunning Gamecube games I've played, even if it is a departure from the perfection that was OOT.

Looks like this was a neat project to turn OOT into a 2D Zelda game. However, the young man in charge of it was killed in a car crash reportedly so it's not moving forward. A shame. Looks like he had some skills:

Aw, that's awful. (I mean the getting killed thing, not just the project not being finished.)

Still, it would be cool if someone picked up the proverbial torch and finished the project to honor him.
