Waterworld ABC Cut? A ton of info - see McFly's posts for details (Released) — Page 6

I can't decide whether the UK Sci-Fi version is actually cleaner, or whether somebody did some filtering...a little blurring to smooth things out. Definitely different transfers. You know what I like about the messier looking Encore version though? No watermark.

Both please.

No filtering off those caps just straight forward screen caps all be it shrunk to show a few stills, as I said before don't know how they compare mine was simply recorded off a video tape from a recording I did off the UK SCI-FI chanel and burnt to disc, if mine is the weaker transfer so be it, but just to let you know there is another transfer out there guys.

Lorang, yours is clearly the better of the two transfers...the level of filtering that would be needed to bring the other up to the quality of yours would obliterate a lot of the fine details that are still quite evident in your copy. To my eye, yours is the nicer by far.

Shame about the watermark, but hey...the movie's also supposed to be 2:35:1, so sometimes you be grateful for what you get and don't sweat the stuff you can't change.

Yeah, man, the quality of that blows mine out of the water. Perhaps you could upload your copy as a torrent or send me a copy to do that with?

Also, is your copy one or two discs?

I've traded my sci-fi channel copy on here a few times but i can't remember to who. This version does look much better than mine though!
I still have this on VHS and i'm hoping my good buddy will transfer it onto DVD for me since my DVD recorder is playing up.

Don't have the know how to upload I'am afraid, one thing I've never got into, but would trade a copy for another fan edit of another movie just let me know, then if you wish to upload it be my guest or alter as you wish. And just to answer the question it's one disc.

Wow. I'd like both versions, the Sci-Fi image is fantastic but I'd also like the Encore version for the non-censoring.

I look forward to these both (?) finding their way out to distribution.
where have i been all this time ?

lorang, can you confirm that the UK Sci-Fi version was edited for language? I don't see why it would be, since it was PG-13 and England has more lax language censorship laws than the US.

Hrm. Someone could get both versions and meld them together to restore the censored audio and any visual cuts for violence or whatever. The non-watermarked version could also be tracked in to cover that little patch with the watermark. That would be the most complete and uncensored version of this cut, no? Except of course, if a widescreen version of this cut were to ever be released. C'mon studio peoples... releasing this cut on a double-dip of Waterworld would make you money. Just think "Extended Edition with OVER 40 MINUTES of EXTRA footage!!". You pull that crap with extended editions that have 8 extra minutes.

Anyway, I'd just like to say I'm still interested in just seeing it. I really hope that both versions make their way to ReverendBeastly and either or both can be uploaded.

so who do I have to talk to to get a copy of this sent to me?

Lorang, if I clued you in on how to set up a torrent, would you be willing to give it a try? It's honestly not that difficult. Do you do the torrent thing at all, as far as downloading stuff? It takes about 3 or 4 minutes to set up.

And RB, if it turns out that Lorang's version has a censored soundtrack, would you still be willing to upload it? Plus it still has value, as it doesn't have a watermark on it. I will say though, looking at that shot of the Everest marker, Lorang's does look pretty nice.

I want it alll....

Tweaker, let me say on the record, that finding another diehard Waterworld fan is very refreshing.

I can still make my version available, yeah, but I want to wait to see Lorang's version. If it's a censored soundtrack, then I'll still upload mine. If it's not and you want mine because of the lack of watermark, I might just mail you discs.

Sounds good either way. I'm not a patient person, but I'll be patient. I assume that if his turns out to have an uncensored audio track, as well as being the same extended cut, then you'll probably want to obtain it from him, and it'll just head down the chain. So...I'll be patient.

Reverend, I can assure you that Tweaker is not the only Waterworld fan out there and I would very much like to see this version torrented.

I'm however, like you, curious to see which one of the 2 versions is the best, and if each has its own merits, that a mix of the 2 would be fantastic even if this is only to be available as full-screen.

I do not think the extended cut will officially ever see the light of day, given the mixed feelings the movie still gets to this day. This is largely uncalled for, as it is public record that the movie recouped its cost at the box-office and was never a flop per se, which would tend to prove that it has its fans out there.

Hello! Waterworld fan present here as well! Just trying to find the OOP DTS version that was released on R1 DVD. The OOP had a full bitrate DTS track. The new one is only half bitrate

I looked it up...domestic + foreign box office was 264 million dollars, about 50-55 percent of which goes back to the film companies that made it...so about 130 million. The film cost 175 million, so it did actually lose quite a bit of money.

Tweak,

I didn't know that only 55% of the gross was going back to the studio...
I had assumed the 264M that boxofficemojo gives as a figure was a bonanza. :-(

It's still far from the artistic disaster of Ishtar or the financial debacle of Heaven's Gate.
Once you go past the (huge) plot holes, the movie is really entertaining and plays to me like an unofficial Mad Max 4.

'Tis cool. I understand the crazy work hours thing. 12 hour days (or nights, for that matter) suck.

Good idea to up a sample to rapidshare. If you do that, be careful to make sure that however you encode it, it looks as much like the source as possible.

There's no info about another cut of braveheart at imdb.com

I think they mean this:

When Braveheart was first shown on US Broadcast television, over two nights, a longer cut was shown - with additional footage not seen theatrically:
- In the scene where King Longshanks reads the note "Wallace has sacked York" and lifts the dismembered head out of the bucket, the American network TV version superimposes an unbroken shot of the back of the head, instead of the front as in the theatrical version.
- When Cheltam gets ready to lead the English charge at the Battle of Stirling, Lord Talmidge yells to Cheltem, "What are you waiting for? Lead them!"
- Before the Battle of York, Wallace tells his men that they will be more merciful than the English. They will spare the Women and the Children. To all else....No Mercy!
- Wallace talks at the campfire about how the graves of his father and brother were desecrated by the English.
- After the scene of Wallace in the Grove, Murron is captured and is sitting inside the Lord's keep and he is talking with her. He says to her, "What's your name girl? Don't you want to tell me your name? (He sits in front of her) You're married, you wanted to keep it a secret eh? I don't blame him, I'd want to keep you for myself as well."

Lorang's just gotten back to me to say that his version is indeed censored (he'll probably be posting here momentarily). So I'll be torrenting both versions. If there's an adventurous soul who wants to patch the uncensored audio into the censored parts of the version with the superior picture, please do so.

If i can offer a suggestion Reverend thats occured to me. If i arrange an exchange with lorang for his edit (if i can), i'll upload his copy on Demonoid and you upload yours. Saves you the grief of doing two DVDs of the same film.

That works for me, Solo. If you can get in touch with lorang and arrange that, I'll happily download.

So all you hardcore Waterworld fans: What kind of interest is there in a torrent of the workprint version of the flick?
