Well, I have the original 1985 HBO vhs that's in great condition. I paid $90.00 for it back then, the day it was released. I was thinking of maybe using most of the DVD 5.1 remix (mixed down to 2.0) with soundtrack reconstruction where necessicary to replicate best the original feel of the mono soundtrack. I know the Damned's "Dead Beat Dance" was removed from the DVD version and replaced with generic soundalike music and Roky Ericson's "Burn the Flames" is slightly different in that one, but I'm not sure about the rest of the music cues. I think that's the major bulk of the differences; the music.

The workprint is dupey, of course and very unfinished (lots of storyboard scenes), but there're a lot of extended scenes as well as an alternate ending.

I remember Fangoria saying at the time that the movie was "Unreleasable, except maybe on a double bill with 'Plan 9 From Outer Space'.", and, indeed, the workprint makes the film look pretty uncommercial. Post production did a great job in bringing the film to life. Puns.
