shanep - thanks, I've given this some thought. I'm not sure that there's the footage to do what you want, and this edit is already going to have quite a few allusions to off-screen events. The celebration scene is so small in terms of runtime that I think it's safe to drop it.

Right, I don't actually own Ep1 on DVD. I feel terrible at the thought of giving Lucas money for the cack-carnival that is the pure, unadulterated Ep1. You need to give me as many good reasons as you can for me to spend the £7 (~US$13) to get the disc. Then I need some pointers as to what tech I need to rip the disc and start editing. My first project will be to produce a really rough drag-and-drop and overdub/subtitle of ep1 indicating all of my changes, which I'll post up for review comments before starting seriously on this.
