I believe they are intended to be a future release of babyhum but do not quote me on it, ask him.

Unless you want the ones without the japanese subs that rikter put out ask him.

Babyhum is doing the japanese laserdisc remasters from 1995 af far as i am aware, Dr. Gonzo not (drgonzo369) also did a release of the japanese sub versions with better qaulity than vhs sourced.

I know tellan has done the pal tapes as part of his project.

as far as I know know no one has yet to capture the superior picture qaulity of the very rare betamax releases which have no japanese language subs.

I have a betamax ntsc tape The making of star wars/ and spfx the empire strikes back do not have a deck or a way of capturing it, it is an offiical release and not a bootleg. must be in slp to fit two docs on one tape however, so if anyone has the slow play speed single release from 1978-1985 it would be nice if they put those out there.

I have heard of only one review of the pal tapes over at amazon's uk site and they complain about the grainyness of the image. not surprising since 16mm was the film source.

The best way to watch these documetaries is if you have a non faded 16mm film print, since that is out of most people's price range however if you have a vcr i suggest you pick up a set of the tapes on the cheap. unfortunetely every tape except from star wars to jedi is hard to find and considered rare, or a collector's item.

the only real hope for these gems is if George Lucas would put up the money to have some restoration done on these documentaries, and present them in a special box set. no one really seems to know who owns the negatives for these documentaries, as far as i can ascertain lucafilm only has film prints in there archives. does the bcc, french television, or pbs own the original camera negs what about the guy who made all four?
