This could go either way, Enterprise [the series] was a bit of a reboot but it still managed [despite what some fans think] to fit into the 'universe' of Star Trek. If it's going to be a 'Reboot' Then why retread characters at all? Why not simply focus on fresh characters? - Or are they looking at this from a 'cash cow' point of view?
I think a focus solely on the relation between Kirk and spock is a tired theme and they should be worried about crafting a good story.
"The economic models of the other [films] were very much based on the fans out there and their purchasing power," says Orci. "With this one we're going for the broad audience to bring people into Trek for the first time."
- It's obvious by this that we are dealing with idiots here...Didn't ANYBODY learn ANYTHING from a little film called AVP [alien vs predator]. I mean WHO exactly will this film be aimed at? Doesn't sound at all like it's for fans of the established saga.
Paramount offered the team full access and support when approaching the franchise. That, combined with their script -- which the writers say adheres to Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's original vision for the franchise - meant this was a project they couldn't pass up.
I'm getting mixed signals here? is it a 'reboot' or is it not? These guys are all over the place with their comments. Unless they have been taken way out of context which i think is equally likely i guess.
If it's a toss up between a crap star trek film or no film at all then I say no movie at all. Don't get me wrong, I hope it's great but current signs indicate [to me] that this is a doomed production. I'd love to be wrong about this...
