Good news: I recieved the NTSC and PAL TMP-Theatrical HD2DVD discs a week ago Friday! (And they look nice!)

Bad news: I haven't posted them to the newsgroups yet. (Hopefully tonight).

Sorry folks, my fault. So stop bugging CW about whether they've been posted. (It shouldn't be up to him to buy a plane ticket to come kick my butt).

Speaking of butt-kicking, that's what Life has been doing to me. (I keep foolishly assuming that it wont get any more time-consuming). Lately, whenever I finally do get the time to post here, I find that I'm too tired (and whatever ) to type coherently.

I've also been caught up in a mess of torrents, so I couldn't get them onto the newsgroups, anyway. That's mostly taken care of, now.

So I hope to start posting to the newsgroups tonight. (About damn time, huh?).

Oh damn, 24 is on tonight, that won't make it easy to concentrate. LOL.

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

Download  shows from Cable DVR (Updated! Yes, it needs a rewrite, but it's worth slogging through, anyway).

Hi Jaiman Tuckuh!

I can seed this for you, if you'd like. Failing that, do you know if anyone is planning to torrent this?
Thanks.

I'd love to get in a PIF chain for this, if there is one going to happen. Can't wait to get it one way or another!

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

@ZackR - The NTSC version is going up in a.b.dvd & a.b.multimedia startrek. The nzb is also in a.b.nzb. The PAL is next.

(People who's server doesn't carry a.b.dvd probably won't see the post at all. That shouldn't affect most people, so I went ahead and put it in both).

@ReverendBeastly - The PIFing & torrenting is waiting for me to send the discs to Dr. Gonzo and Faustus. And, well, I'm particularly slow about getting to the Post Office. But it's gonna happen.

Good morning all!
Jaiman Tuckuh is going to send me a copy of this, so I am going to set up a PIF chain in Europe. I can send this on to 4 people. Who wants it and is willing to continue the chain?
I'll also start one with marioxb's Street Fighter II edit.
By the way, I'll be seeding these as well. Not sure which torrent site yet.

I've got this now. I'll start a PiF chain in Europe, if there's any interest.

You are slightly right, it was a loooooooooooooooooooooong time ago, but I was actually searching for the complete show aired between season 1 and season 2 of the Next Generation, it had some behind-the-scenes footage plus a hybrid B&W/color version of The Cage, I've seen it only once on SAT 1 and it's title backtranslated from german was something like From one generation to another, it was hosted by Patrick Stewart. Do you know if it was released on some "normal" format ? (NOT laserdisc or something similar, laserdisc is something completely unknown in this part of Europe).
Also, the original series was never released here, and I don't want to buy it from some other country, because it would have no (usable) subtitles and my english is not that good (as you probably noticed from my posts )

"The Cage" has actually been available on video since 1986 in its hybrid B/W/Color format (Color scenes being specifically those included in "The Menagerie", and the black and white portions from a personal work print owned by Roddenberry). At the time, it had been thought that all color prints of the pilot were destroyed. The Color/B/W version features an introduction by series creator Gene Roddenberry taped on the sets of the movie Enterprise shortly before their conversion to their TNG forms, and a closing by Roddenberry.

In about 1988 or 1989, Paramount discovered a color print of the pilot still in their vaults and released it on video. This version is also frequently seen in syndication.

Both the Color and Hybrid versions (with Roddenberry's intro/outro), can be seen on DVD on Volume 40 (with the final episode) and Star Trek: The Complete Third Season.

Now if Paramount would only release the pilot version (not the broadcast version) of "Where No Man Has Gone Before"

Author
Time
Yes that's true, but as I wrote a couple of times before : I am NOT looking for the color/b&w version of 'the cage', but for a copy of the COMPLETE show hosted by PS

Sorry, I've been too busy to participate much, lately.

They goofed on the TMP movie, the Director's Edition was the only dvd. Do you have the link to the article? I gave up trying to dig it up.
As I see they are currently re-designing the whole website, that can be the problem. But I probably still have somewhere the articles (I downloaded them maybe a year ago - oops, it's actually 2 years ago now ), so if you want them, I can search for them.

Nah, it's not important, if it would be a chore for you to search out.

EDIT: By the way, I was searching out threads, for the next reply, and I noticed you asked about "The Cage", long long ago. It was released on DVD. Both the color and the color/B&W versions are on the last volume of the 2-episode-per-disc DVD set. Volume 40. I'm pretty sure its in the 3rd Season Box Set, too.

I thought there was a VHS, of that special, but I don't find a copy on Ebay or Half. I don't know if it was ever released in PAL format.

According to Star Trek Discs it was on Laserdisc, but only in a Japanese box set.

Yeah, I know, you don't want laserdisc, but it needs to be preserved to dvd, so, maybe, someday... But the Laserdisc would have burned-in subtitles. If a guy could find the LD and also the VHS, then a VHS capture could be used to replace the subtitles (using a compositor). At the very least, the episode footage could be taken from the DVD.

I don't remember noticing any innacuracies in your English. Then again, many people who only speak English, don't write it very well, so any errors might not stand out.

The DVD's have the full-color version, along with the color+B&W version.

Seems the 2-episodes-per-volume TOS were only released in NTSC. You may not want to pay for an entire box-set for one episode, but I seem to recall someone mentioning that the PAL TOS had subtitles for many different languages. Amazon.co.uk only lists English, but they never seem bother to mention other languages. Maybe you could check amazon.de?

You mean the X-Mas as in Futurama? Heh. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.
Well, that's funny, I was actually watching that episode of Futurama the day you wrote this

Happy New Year friends.

Har. It was that time of year, but still a pretty good coincidence.

I believe the 2-disc set of the director's cut actually includes the original versions of scenes as bonus amterial on disc two. Assuming all of it's on there, it shouldn't be hard to edit together.

Yes, you're right. That's exactly what I was planning to do, that's why I have asked the question if anybody else did it allready (I don't want to waste my time with creating something what allready exists).

Well, there's still the extended version that needs to be recreated or captured.

I seem to remember reading that there was a line of dialouge not present on the First Contact DVD that was heard in the theatre, the line was from Kelsey Grammer as Captain Bateson of the USS Bozeman responding to Picard's order of attack, this was widely regarded as not being true until the line turned up in the HD version.

This can be the truth, I have a DVD with the theatrical version of "First Contact" and it is approx. one minute shorter then the 2disc version. But inclusion of only one line can not be responseable for an extra minute, can it ?

I said that in another thread, but then I couldn't find the line on the HD. Powerdvd remembered where I'd compared the dvd to the Hd... I can't explain it. I can't think of any other source than the HD.

Is your Theatrical Version from an unofficial source? That would be interesting.

I will be running a PIF of the version that CW does once I get a copy of it. If anyone wants to join in on the chain, let me know after I get the dvd.

I guess with "PIF" you don't mean the windows shortcut for dos programs Is it the system "I'll send you it for free if you send it for free to someone else" ? If yes, I would be interested.

PAL version is done.

Heh ? Did I miss something ? Or better said : how can I get a copy ?

Faustus would be the guy to ask, in Europe. But you probably already know that.

Hi everyone,

I just found this forum while I was searching for the theatrical or extended version of TMP. As I see, someone seems to have uploaded the theatrical version ... but where can I download it? I'm not into newsgroups and such things, so has anyone put it on a torrent?

The idea of editing together the extended version using the delted scenes of the DE bonus disc is something that sounds very interesting. If someone is doing it, I'd definitely be interested in that too! But I'd be happy about a laserdisc rip as well.

Thanks and bye!

Welcome, Oso Blanco!

I don't know if a torrent has been started, yet, for the TMP preservations.

If you turn on your PM's, you can PM DrGonzo369, who posted early in this thread. He's doing a PIF chain ("pay it forward") with discs. Or Faustus, depending on where you live.

I hope someone does the extended version, someday.

Thanks for your answer, but I have already figured out how to download it from the newsgroup. I can't wait to have this!

I'm still not sure what the source of this is, it says HD2DVD ... what does that mean? I thought it was a laserdisc rip?

Hey cool, I'm glad you're getting it from the newsgroups.

It was converted from an HDTV broadcast of the theatrical version. So it's a lot more detailed than a laserdisc transfer could be.

I have both the HD2dvd transfer and the 2 disc sl laserdisc transfer and am keeping the laserdisc one because of the full pcm sound, Jerry Goldsmith's music has never sounded nicer except on the expensive and out of print 20th anniversry cd but that's another story. no one has done a isolated score for star trek the motion picture, yet.

the laserdisc transfer is not mine so i really cannot share it. It is hiphats creation, do not know how you could contact him or if he is still a member of this site. also have no clue if a torrent was ever created or if there is an active one.

@Jaiman Tuckuh:

As I understand, you have a HD version of The Undiscovered Country which seems to be the theatrical cut. Are you going to upload that one as well? Would be nice to have, just for the sake of completion.

BTW, what format are the HD versions before they are being converted to DVD format? Is there a loss in quality during the conversion? If so, is there any place where I could download the original HD files? Many questions, but I'm kind of new to this ...

I wouldn't be welcome to repost them into the groups they were originally in - alt.binaries.hdtv and alt.binaries.hdtv.repost. Once something is reposted, there, that's usually it.

I might be able to repost hdtv files to alt.binaries.startrek, some day. But I don't know how likely that is. I have at least 2 months of fan-edit/preservation stuff to post already, and there's more that I haven't got yet. Plus new stuff keeps coming out. Also, it would take me 4 or 5 days to post a set. I would like to, because they should be posted to that group. Of course no one does post hdtv files, there, so I would have to do an "intent to post" to see if anyone objected.

You might be able to get them by torrent (see the babbling at the bottom).

Of course, if the movies become available on retail HDTV discs, (or retail HDTV download, like the XBox service), then I won't be able to post them at all. OTOH, if the retail versions are altered from the HDTV captures, then it wouldn't be against the forum rules to distribute the old captures (if I understand correctly).

That being said, the first set of ST VI captures, that I have, aren't identical to the theatrical. There is more of the picture vertically (like in the DVD's). And the end theme is different from what was described at IMDB. But they do match the theatrical scenes, whereas the DVD's have extra scenes.

BTW, what format are the HD versions before they are being converted to DVD format? Is there a loss in quality during the conversion? If so, is there any place where I could download the original HD files? Many questions, but I'm kind of new to this ...

Yep, there is a lot of quality lost, in conversion to DVD. HD files have much more detail than DVD. So, of course, they are large sets of files - 2 or 3 single-layer dvd's-full.

The hdtv files are almost always .TS files. Usually in 100 Megabyte chunks. Those have to be joined to play smoothly. They contain either mpeg2 or hx264 codecs. VLC plays HD files. But any software will have trouble playing some hx264 caps (if they have a full-sized picture and a high "bitrate"). Joining and converting gets into a longer subject.

A different posting of ST VI (looked about the same, but wasn't a file-match, and I didn't get a chance to check it scene-by-scene) was posted on 11-27-06. That expired from Giganews recently. So it might show up again in the repost group, soon.

Meanwhile, ST III was posted, for the first time ever, 15 days ago, in alt.binaries.hdtv. It'll likely be reposted.

So that leaves ST IV as the only Trek movie never posted in HD.

Bit-hdtv Had torrents for ST 1, 2, and 6-10, the last time I looked.

Hd-bits probably has V, but they are invitation-only.

Once you download them, though, you might not have someone to seed to - ruining your ratio. Their advice is to select some of the files from a popular torrent, and seed those over & over, to build up a ratio - then go for the heavily seeded torrents with few downloaders.

I wish I had ST V, but I managed to miss it. I don't suppose anyone happens to have it, or could get me an invite to hd-bits?

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

is there an HD version of star trek II: the wrath of Khan theatircal version?

i am excited about all the hd versions of star trek does anyone trade the source hd files on dvdr? through snailmail?

i am only interested if they are similar to the out of print theatrical versions, or have diffrences. if they are the same as the 2 disc collectors/director cut series them i'm not interested, because it's against forum rules to ask for an HD of something that already appears in a lower qaulity dvd release.

i have radix HD2DVD of the theatrical version from dr. g, and the qaulity is very nice if the original HD files look nicer thats quite a shock.

is there not a way to get full quality if you put it on 2 to 3 dual layer dvd?

The theatrical version of "The Wrath Of Khan" is not out of print, as far as I know. At least it's still widely available.

I'd also be highly interested in the source HD files of the theatrical releases of The Motion Picture and The Undiscovered Country. Or maybe a dual disc transfer?
