I don't know if you've seen, but on the alt.binaries.starwars newsgroup is some scans from the DVD and booklet of 'Sculpting A Galaxy' and the 1976 Tunisia footage from 'R2D2 Beneath The Dome'

Its the history of the ILM model shop by Lorne Peterson, contains many unseen photos from his own collection of the making of SW (ILM, Death Valley, Tikal). Its an amazing 2 x 15 minute slideshows with commentary. About 50% 1976.
So, not a movie or documentary, just photos.
If you live in the UK, pm me your addy for a copy if you'll PIF (just 5 copies).

I'm pretty sure you mentioned that you have John Knoll's book, Star Wars: 365 Days, but it was just something that came to mind as something that will probably be a good resource. In addition, if you haven't seen them already, these two books might come in handy:
- Industrial Light & Magic: The Art of Special Effects, by Thomas G. Smith
- Industrial Light & Magic: Into the Digital Realm, by Mark Cotta Vaz and Patricia Rose Duignan
They can be rather expensive, as I believe they are both out of print (not sure about that, but I think they're on the rarer side, at least), but one can get fairly good deals if one used for used copies on Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com (I have Into the Digital Realm, and that's how I got it).

Another though on books -- are you interested in using the manga adaptations of the films? Hisao Tamaki's adaptation of A New Hope is particularly well-done (though they are all quite good).

I went into HMV and they said they had never heard of it Although i looked later on the net and found some info about it from amazon.com). Would this be of any interest to you or do you already have a copy of it? It does seem that its still available to buy but not from many places so you may be able to pick yourself up a copy for about £4 ( i only paid 25p today though.lol)

Well i found it interesting. It was great to see the old news footage that i remembered seeing as a child. I wouldn't pay more than a few quid for it though ( i just seen it on ebay going for over £10 although you can get it new for about £3). It does get repetitive at times and having no behind the scenes footage was a tiny bit disappointing, but i enjoyed it. I would say if you can get it cheap then if you don't like it you haven't wasted much money.

EDIT: I found it, it was called "The Stars of Star Wars" Neither Lucasfilm nor 20th Century Fox authorized this film, so don't expect any footage from Star Wars movies. Instead, you'll get an exhaustive collection of interviews with the famed saga's key players. Cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Liam Neeson reflect on the blockbuster sci-fi series, while celebrities Magic Johnson, Sharon Stone and Christina Ricci cheerfully pledge their allegiance to the Force. It's out of print, but I'm gonna check it out from Netflix
There might be some interesting stuff from the Science of Star Wars specials a while back.

Its an hour long documentary and features interviews with the cast as well as george and some others involved in the saga including interviews with garrick hagon ( they make a cock up and call him biggs starglider though). Also, I think that Carrie was lying in this video, IIRC. She said that she and Mark hit the wall when they flew across the chasm but in Empire of Dreams (?) she said that they made it on first attempt. I guess she spiced the story up.
Edit: and yes, mine is an official video, not DVD.

I like unauthorized because it has mark hamill talking about the sequel trilogy before the prequels were made, and of course it has Charlie Lippincott who is a real nice guy and has some interesting things to say. They should have let Mr Lippincott finish his making of star wars book, instead of that guy who did the prequels books.
I don't want a making of star wars book by anyone involved in the making of the special editions or prequels, just the guy who conducted the interviews and such when it was an unkown item simply called star wars.
Mr. Charles Lippincott, as well as George Lucas and Donald F Glutt all shared a common love for flash gordon and the movie serials of buster Crabbe as well as comic books.
I believe Donald F. Glutt was also asked to pen the novelization for star wars but turned it down, and alan dean foster stepped in and wrote it.
would sci fi fans have heard of star wars if not for mr lippincott's presentation at the world science fiction convention , i highly doubt it. he with the help of Roy Thomas also sold the movie as a comic to stan Lee, as well as got it out as a novelization under the then new ballantine imprint del rey, who's first book published was terry brooks sword of shannara.
