Yeah, but it's kind of a bunk argument.

Our solar system is big in itself, and there's nothing living there aside from us. Doesn't mean there's nothing, of course, but it doesn't prove there's something there either. Just show me the aliens.

Well, I don't think the immense size of the galaxy proves there is life elsewhere, but considering the huge range of life found on Earth, I can't imagine why "life" couldn't exist elsewhere in the galaxy.
Otherwise, it seems like a lot of wasted space to me.

And who says the aliens want to be seen?
