Has anyone contacted eBay as well to report these sellers?
I have seen The Monster Squad, Rad, Howard The Duck, and a few other yet to be released to DVD, High Definition encodes to DVD on there.
Really sucks that people take the time to do the work, then some ass goes and downloads for free and then sells it.

I report these scum to eBay all the time.I got mad one time because I saw my actual custom cover go long with an edit and the seller had the nerve to say HE made it!!

I sent off a message to the ebay seller:

Why are you selling what is a fan preservation? This dvd was given out for free so you should not be selling it. Some people in the fanedit/fan preservation community are threatening to contact ebay and lucasfilms about you selling this dvd. The dvd authorer made no money off of doing this and did it only to preserve it and you should not be making any money either. Please pull this dvd off since you didn't buy it so you shouldn't make money off of it.

I got this reply:

Don't act like you know anything this was not given out for free...wanna proove me wrong buy a copy.

I'm tempted to reply back and say "If you bought this, you got suckered!" lol

Yeah, I'm just waiting for one of these fuckers to use the covers I made for DJ. I'll pounce on them like a fucking cheetah.

There's a really good reason I made up logos for Dark Jedi which I use when I make covers for him

The obvious thing to do would be to bid this thing up ridiculously high and then fuck him for payment...not that I would condone that sort of thing *cough*

I have done my share of HD2DVD but all have been done with HDTV2DVD or SUPER to VOB and then into TDA
I am much better at menu creation let me tell you HAHA

I tried making this DVD and I can say it is a pain in the rear seeing that the source is H.264 PAL
So a huge thanks to Dark Jedi for taking on the task of doing this.

If I may get in one opinion though. The menu. All is great but the chapter layout with the highlighting.....not so 'Special Edition' looking.
Please don't get me wrong and seeing as I wasn't able to encode this, it's just something to consider when making the menu section in your new version.

What does money have to do with anything and why the harsh attack man?
I only made a suggestion for crying out loud.

As for the eBay deal, I just reported about 7 sellers of HD to DVD encodes.Few Howard, few Rad, couple Monster ..... see what happens.

Ok, I'll bite...Sorry for the threadcap...
I made my own DVD from a TV series.Sure you can see what TV series that is.

Animated as well as sound.Image is of main and there are no chapters.Episodes are small and no need IMO for chapters.

I actually just popped back on to edit my comment, thinking it was too harsh, lol.

I wasn't trying to be hard on you - what I meant was that if you're as good as you're boasting, we ought to do well. (Get it? Star Wars reference? Hah!)

Sorry if I came across that way.

"Put your money where your mouth is" means roughly "don't talk about it, do it".

Quite a common phrase, actually. But I quibble.

No hard feelings
Perhaps my comment made me look like I was king shit of menu observer and creation. For sure I am not.
I only know these fan edits are done with pride and careful thinking.Design is always a plus and I personally look at DVDs as collections and ones like this are high on my list.
Cover art, dis art, menu setup, all something I personally like.Maybe it's the graphics designer in me ?

Thank Zeus about that. I was worried.

I haven't seen the cover art created for dark_jedi's Howard HD2VD, is the ebay seller displaying the same art?

They do have the same Monster Squad art as dark_jedi's version, on their other item ...

Right?

Stupendously great conversion job, and—well, the movie is it's own thing ....

Me, I enjoy it as a colossal miscalculation. A very enjoyable one, indeed.

Thanks!

The cover for Howard on eBay is one that has been around for some time now.
It's the 'Special Edition Widescreen' that says it has all sorts of extras on it and with THX remastering.

dark_jedi,
If you mean your DVD, I love it.You did what I tried and that was convert an HD H.264 PAL into a NTSC DVD
I was pulling hair and soon waited for someone like you to do it.I spent about a week trying it and while I did get a DVD structure, it was very jittery and I wasn't about to release something like that.

Believe me it was no walk in the park,it was a royal pain in the arse, and somehow I still managed to loose the end credits,oh well,I will probably never do a .h264 encoded HD file again.
unless it is something REALLY rare LOL.

Well it might be easier soon if SVCD2DVD author gets out his new version with H.264 support.
I had asked him why his free app, HDTV2DVD didn't take my HTD .TS and he said it didn't support H.264 but the newer version of SVCD2DVD would. So at least there is hope there.
A sad truth though is that several channels are going to adopt the 1080p H.264 format.

Response to douchebag on ebay:

Considering that I just downloaded this HD2DVD conversion (which was free from the dvd author) and have spoken to the guy who did this conversion several times, I think I might know a thing or two. This film is not on dvd in any country right now, and if you paid for it on dvd you got ripped off. Do Not sell fan edits or preservations.

Douchebag's very laughable reply:

why don't you spend your time watching your downloaded version and enjoy getting spyware and quit discriminating against me I didnt do anything to you.

fuckin douchebag.....

I like that you used the word "asshat" there, because that's exactly what I just said in my message to him!

sent by me

Hey, asshat, you have no place trying to sell this DVD. Do not try to reap what you haven't sown. You've been reported to eBay, and so have all your other auctions for DVDs you ALSO have no place selling.

You're welcome.
his reply

I dont understand why people like you waste your time? I just try to let other people enjoy their past with old movies ..wowzer people are selfish

response by me

Yeah, at the expense of their $150. If you wanted to help people "enjoy their pasts", you'd put it at a But-It-Now price of around $10 to cover just the costs of the media, packaging and postage. What you're doing is swindling people.

His first reply was quick, so maybe I'll get another one soon.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Has anybody message'd magnolia-fan about this yet?
(magnolia-fan is the high bidder)

What if they are ignorant of the bittorrent/usenet/sharing universe? Whaddaya do then? I myself, not so many years ago, have purchased bootlegged items through ebay, because I wanted them badly enough, and didn't yet know how else to get them. Still, I probably never payed much over $20 or so ...

Reporting to eBay is not as easy as it should be.
What you need to do is find the auction and copy the auction number that is at the right.Should read Item number: xxxxxxxxxxxx
Dickboys auction is Item number: 320088129144
So you take that number and then click HELP at the left. Then click on CONTACT US.The you will see steps to follow.
Select the first option Listing Violations then click continue.
Now select Counterfeits and copyright violations, Bootlegs and counterfeit media, and finally Copies of unreleased movies, television programs, music, etc
Click continue and click the link given. Then click on Replica, Counterfeit Items and Unauthorized Copies
Now click Report unauthorized copies of media link.Once you do that you are FINALLY to the area you can paste in the item number you copied from the auction.

I believe there are too many damn steps to reporting this sorta stuff and should be a report button on item pages. But what can you do.

NOTE*
You MUST be logged into eBay in order to do this.

If nobody has contacted magnolia-fan then I will and will offer him a free copy.
Will let him know he wont get a bad mark from a bootlegger because he wont be able to tell eBay that he wont pay for his bootleg
This seller has both HTD and Monster Squad HD2DVD ..... but not for long hehe

I found that reporting the item to eBay actually is as easy as it should be: there's a "Report This Item" link at the bottom of the item's page.

I tried to message Magnolia Fan, but eBay prevented me from doing so because I wasn't involved in a transaction with him :\
