No, I'm not leaving this board, simply going to bed.

I really do like "The Sound of Music" though.

Nice post ADM. For a second there I was afraid you were really leaving us. That would have been truely a loss. Glad to see that is not the case. Goodnight.

The thing I don't get about "I'm leaving" threads is: why even post them? If there is even one ounce of doubt that you may return, why do it? Why not just stop visiting the site altogether, and then if you decide to return it's no big deal since you didn't post some lame going away thread. What is wrong with people?

Unfortunately I think it is partially due to a need for validation and recognition as a member of the community.

They write them, then check back every couple of days to see if there are any "Please don't leave, we love you and miss you," comments.

Usually they find no such thing and come back under a different name.

Damn...this thread scared me. Not funny, ADM!

Most goodbye threads leave me shrugging my shoulders. This one actually stung a bit.

Glad you were kidding, man.

Yeah, Sound of Music is really good, except now you've forced that song to be stuck in my head!

But, yeah, you had me worried, too, especially since ric just left. None of us want a mass exodus of awesome posters. But when I opened it, I realized it was the funniest thing I'd read all night. Good stuff, ADM.

Now I'm off to plot my vengeance against you for jamming that song into my brain.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

You sonuvabitch! I get back from a whirlwind semi-vacation and read that subject, only to get Julie Andrews stuck in my head. Have I told you lately how much you suck, ol' buddy ol' pal?

Semi-off topic: For those of you out there who hate "The Sound of Music" or have friends who do, simply look at it from a slightly different perspective. If you view it as the story of a hot young nun who leaves the convent to marry a wealthy older sailor and deliver a sly musical "fuck you" to the Nazis before running off to Vermont, it's pretty cool.

Musicals tend to do that.

Of course. I love all you guys. Here, there, and even over there. Just a little late-night ruse with a subtle commentary on the whole goodbye thread thing.

And I love you most of all. But let's not get all Brokeback.

I've gotta give this description to the missus. Sound of Music is her favorite film, so she'll love this new description, though to me it sounds like the tagline for the Michael Bay remake. I can hear Don LaFontaine delivering your writeup now, along with, "In a world where love is forbidden ..." Then a graphic of a musical note morphing into a swastika, followed by a BIG EXPLOSION. "The Sound of Music ... It's more than meets the ear."
