Info: Coming Soon On HDTV...

 (Edited)

I was crusing on the internet and decided to look up Universal HDTV’s schedule and I almost fell over when I saw what they were screening this month…

The Legend of Billie Jean
Ghost Dad
The Incredible Shrinking Woman
Pure Luck
Timecop
Dark Victory ('70s Elizabeth Montgomery TV movie)

I am going to do my first HD2DVD conversion and I am a little bit ansy about it because I don’t know much except how to press the record button on the DVD recorder. I am not 100% certain if that is the best way to do it, but it’s the only way I know how and I don’t think my DVR box, made by Scientific Atlanta, will allow me to transfer directly to my computer in any shape, way or form. If anyone has any input on how I should go about doing this, please let me know because I want to get the BEST quality I can possibly get. Thanks!

Dear God, would somebody please capture the Incredible Shrinking Woman? I have longed for a decent copy of this for a long time. I even have a cover in the works for whatever version I end up with. SilverWook made me a Copy of the Discovision LD, but it has a weird stutter to it, and incredibly soft picture. Please, for the love of everything cheesy, capture this movie in HD.

This is not the way to do it.

You're only going to get a 4x3 non-anamorphic single-layer version unless you have component inputs on your recorder and are prepared to break this into two and do some work.

Sorry but it would be pretty worthless.

I understand what you are saying digitalfreaknyc, but I do have the direct componant connection and can record in either full frame or widescreen depending on the source, which will be widescreen. It's all Dolby Digital 2.0 and I have no issues with recording in HQ at a little over and hour and then splicing the material together to make one file or if I decide to upgrade my recorder, just record to a dual layer disc and then do the editing on my computer. Besides, I don't know of any other way to do it seeing as how the box can't be hooked up to my computer to transfer the data. If anyone knows any tips and tricks to doing this, please let me know and I will do it just to get the best quality I can get.

You will still lose quality on both video and audio since the limitations of a dvd recorder.
Also can your dvd recorder record to dual layer discs?
It is better to start with the original .ts file(s) and work from it since you will only lose some quality authoring a dual layer dvd.
Plus I believe the audio bitrate that dvd recorders record at is 256kbps where most hdtv 2.0 audio tracks are 384kbps.
Also you will only get a 4x3 non-anamorphic recording just like digitalfreaknyc said up above.

Do you access to your ISP's newgroup server? I know some ISP provide a basic free access to usenet servers.
It just makes the steps so much easier if you can d/l the .ts hdtv file(s).

I second the call for Incredible Shrinking Woman! I don't think there's been a new transfer of it done since 1981!
I've read elsewhere Legend of Billie Jean may have music rights clogging up a DVD release...

Where were you in '77?

You are correct about Billie Jean. Music rights is what is holding up an official dvd release.

Which recorder do you have?

There are only a handful that actually have component inputs. You're not going to be able to upgrade at this point.

Yeah, I have access to the news server but wouldn't know where to go to find the files being posted in the groups.
