I’m trying to get into a (very rare) screening of ROTLA: The Adaptation today, and I was just wondering, has anyone ever come across a copy of this? I would love to have a preservation of it.

Cross your fingers for me actually being able to get a ticket.

Chris Strombolos has made it patently clear that this film is not to be digitally distributed or replicated without his approval. On Indy sites around the net they have stated that they have no intention of ever releasing it for duplication.

My guess? They've obviously carved out quite the little celebrity lifestyle for themselves and stand to make more infamy and money off of it. $10 says it will get a commercial release at some point, possibly as a bonus whenever their "life story" movie gets around to being filmed. For now, they'll do their little tours and festivals and accept the adulation.

How many people knock themselves out trying to create something original and never get noticed and these guys get the spotlight? Fame is very strange indeed!

I have never heard of this. What is it?

A group of preteens/teens, upon seeing Raiders when it came out, decided to make a shot-for-shot remake of Raiders. It spanned several years, but they finished it. I understand it's rather impressive considering the budget and technology that was available. I haven't gotten the opportunity to see it and I agree that it would be wonderful to have on DVD for those who can't make it to the screenings.

And in 2004, it was announced that Hollywood producer Scott Rudin had purchased the life rights of Eric, Jayson and Chris to make a biographical film about their experiences making Raiders: The Adaptation.
Writer Daniel Clowes is currently working on the screenplay. To be released by Paramount Pictures. - TheRaider.net

Eh, looks semi-interesting.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

That was completely.......AMAZING! They really did brilliant work for next to nothing of a budget. Great shot/set recreations, and amazing stunt work. They seemed like really nice, humble guys too. No, it's not original work, but it was really inspiring to me. I've been tossing around ideas for short and feature length films, and I was really motivated by seeing this. If you get the chance to see this, I highly recommend it.

I'm hoping that they can include a copy of this on the potential Daniel Clowes film. I'm not sure how the rights would work out for the soundtrack with the John Williams score though (not to mention the intellectual property rights of the actual story/images). We were quite lucky in that this screening had the whole audio track including the John Williams score. I've read that it had been edited out of screenings when they feared legal problems with Spielberg/Lucasfilm. Perhaps a DVD release could be made on the condition that all proceeds went to charity, as that is the current agreement for the screenings. I don't think Lucasfilm would have to fear this cutting into sales of ROTLA.

I'm quite sure this is circulating in generated VHS form. I saw a divx somewhere once. I think there were slight rumors of a possible release as like a bonus feature but I doubt it will ever be.

Downloaded a copy of this several months ago, watched a few minutes, and promptly deleted it.

Hmm, here's the torrent page for it. 784 megabyte xvid file. Have fun.

(Please note, I know we're not supposed to link to torrents, but this isn't a commercial release of any sort. Just something...weird.)
