the upconverted 4:3 letterbox version still does not look as good as a anamorphic widescreen version upconverted.
I ran my regular 4:3 Sept 12th DVD's and they looked OK,but when I converted my set,I used a mild grain filter and converted to 16:9 anamorphic it looked so much better
