I guess the person behind the mystery e-mail threats has finally been revealed, eh?

Neil, dude, you seem like a cool guy but leave this project alone and don't be such a dick.

That's actually quite a good idea.

I will admit you have talent and the footage that i have seen so far looks pretty good.... for another movie. Why don't you spend your time and talents to recreate the theatrical editions so we can have a high quality copy of the version that we all love instead of this pile of [censored].

Now I come here and see, "This is the way Lucas should have changed the movie". That goes against the very core of why I joined and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. It goes against the founding principle of this site and legitimizes what Lucas has done to the films. Not only that, it sends the message that the fans want things changed and think that it's alright. Maybe some do, but this site should not be part of that mentality.

People like you make me sick and are the reason why we will never get a high quality version of the OUT. As long as so called fans ( and i use that term lightly for you) mess about with our childhood memories then lucasfilm will think that is what we want and it will be a never-ending DVD re-release with even more [censored]* done to it.

Hmm....

Adywan,

Pay no mind to Neil's very rude comments. He's definitely in the minority here as almost everyone else in this thread supports you and your great work. If he doesn't like what you're doing nobody's holding a gun to his head forcing him to follow your progress. I think the words "move along" are certainly appropriate in this instance.

I couldn't agree more.

Anyway i've now finished redoing the colour correction footage lost so i can now get back to FX work. Looking at the amount of footage that i have had to redo (including about 20 FX shots) i have decided that i will be releasing a brand new trailer about 4 weeks before the edit is in the bag. I realised when looking at the other trailer that about 50% of the footage would be different to the final version now because of having to redo those scenes. It will be based upon what was to be the "final" trailer but will be longer and feature more unseen footage.

I'm not the person behind the anonymous e-mail and I don't appreciate being called a "dick". If I was so concerned about being private, why would I be one of the few people here to use my real name? I never shy away from voicing my opinion, (which I did precisely once in this thread). It may not be a popular opinion, but I would never make the threats that were made in that e-mail and I wouldn't resort to name calling.

And "BMadden" what rude comments did I make? A direct quote would be nice.

Neil

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

Saying things like "screwing around with your own work" and "worshiping at the heels of Lucas" come off as sounding pretty rude to me.

That's just semantics. I wasn't intending it to be rude, it's how you interpreted it.

Calling me a "dick" is rude (I know you didn't).

There's a difference.

Yes, calling you a "dick" is rude and thank you for recognizing that I didn't do that. I still think the tone of your message towards Adywan was a little rude and that criticizing his work is uncalled for, but I'll let that be between you and him.

Thanks. I never knew that that line was for ANH.

Since when was that line for ANH?

Where in the film would they use that?

I thought it was recorded especially for ESB SE.

Huh??

It's bullshit about that line being recorded for Star Wars. I'm not sure what Ben Burtt was thinking when he said that. And it's easy to prove that it's not from a cut Star Wars scene on several counts. First of all, there is no scene where Vader boards an Imperial ship in Star Wars. A scene where this occurs isn't even in any of the scripts.

Also, in Star Wars they are "Imperial Cruisers". The term "Star Destroyer" was not used until The Empire Strikes Back.

And now about Adywan's project......

I didn't join originaltrilogy.com to advocate more changes to the movie. The whole point was to try and get a classic film back to its original form. This micro-managed, "It's better because now 3PO is seen in the macrobinoculars" is the same sort of garbage Lucas has been doing to the films (both old and new) for over 10 years now. It's the story that counts, not how many creatures blink. Adywan, you're demonstrating a talent for effects, but your efforts would be far better suited to screwing around with your own work and not worshiping the heels of Lucas.

Neil

Calling someone's hard work garbage is being a dick.

Saying "screwing around with your own work and not worshipping the heels of Lucas" is being a dick.

I call it like I see it, Neil. As I said it before, you seem like a cool guy but your comments were uncalled for, and you were totally out of line.

And you've never critiqued a movie or a book or a piece of music? Everything is wonderful? You're either a sycophant or a hypocrite.

I praised Adywan's technical ability. I just don't care for the movie he chose to work on or the manner in which he's doing it and I stand behind that totally. Making creatures blink from a technical stand point is impressive. But in a practical sense, it doesn't serve the movie. Why replace the shot of the Falcon going into hyperspace for the first time? It's a powerful dramatic moment that now looks amateurish.

I didn't threaten him. I passed along an opinion. It wasn't an attack, and it wasn't meant as one. Any artist must learn to deal with criticism and I think he has. He's not the one insulting me and he seemed to have a bit of sense of humor about it. That's good.

Why does it bother so much that he wants to make this edit?

Btw, I've just read your link Neil, and I never knew all that shit about Anamorphic before. I kinda knew but didn't, if you get what I mean.

But still, that has nothing to do with what Adywan is doing. He's just trying something out for himself. And he's doing a good job. I'm sure no one here is going to slate him for that.
We all want the same things here, but until we get them, let's just do our own shit for fun. Not that I'm doing any edit (man I wouldn't know where to start) it's just that if he wants to do them, let him. No harm is being done. You just need to calm down. Chill out man.

Especially in a thread dedicated to his fan edit.

Adywan,

after the (IMO) 'silly' tie battle when they escape the death star are you leaving in the comment where Leia suspects the empire is tracking them? as this is a major plot hole as well.

as far as I'm concerned you can edit away to your hearts content as the SE is already a 'sows ear' so perhaps you could turn it into a 'silk purse'

I have to ask, sorry. But what plot hole?

Vader; "I told you she would never conciously reveal the whereabouts of the hidden base"

Tarkin; "Terminate her! Immediately"

Solo; "Not a bad bit of rescueing!"

Leia; "They're tracking us, no other explanation for the ease of our escape"

Solo; "Not this ship sister"

So after all that resistance to reveal the whereabouts of the base to the empire (including the destruction of her home planet), what does Leia do? Yep, knowingly leads the empire straight to the base she has been hiding.

Lucas' logic was pathetic even back in the 70's.

Its not much of a plot hole . Basically, the dialogue you used for Vader and Trakin was taken after her interogattion, which Vader specifed her resistance was "considerable". Secondly, the scene preceding Han and Leia's dialogue you posted also reveal that Tarkin and Vader had a tracking device installed on the Falcon.

Tarkin: "Are they away?"

Vader:"They just made the jump into hyperspace"

Tarkin:"I'm taking an awful risk Vader, this had better work."

"THIS HAD BETTER WORK", indicates a PLOT POINT.

So when Han tells Leia that their escape worked, she knows better, that of course the bad guys would be tracking them, and that they have to have their last stand simply because R2 has the plans and they will be delivered to the Rebels by the time the Death Star reaches them. So yeah, in a way Leia is leading the Empire to the base simply because the Rebels will have a means of stopping them.

So again, not mch of a plot hole, if you can even consider it that.

I don't remember exactly, but I think there was also a scene in Deleted Magic where we get to see some of the original audition footage, and in the original writing for the scene, Leia mentions essentially that even if they're being tracked, they need to start their attack sometime, and the Empire coming for them simply initiates an already inevitable confrontation -- which is the purpose of getting the plans to the Rebellion. I don't remember the scene exactly, so I hope I have my facts straight. I also don't remember if she mentions this, but it would kind of make sense for them to use themselves as bait to bring the Empire to the base -- now that she can ensure the safe delivery of the plans, the Empire coming to the base eliminates the need for the Rebels to get their fleet to the Death Star on their own. So it's not really a plot hole, and actually makes sense strategically, from a certain point of view.

Take care,
Sojourn

I really don't think that it is a plot hole at all. Leia was probably suspicious that the Empire would probably track the ship but wasn't sure until after the TIE fight. But she knew that she would be leading the Empire straight to the hidden base but she had to deliver the plans R2 was carrying or the Rebellion would have stood no chance on destroying the Death Star. She had to get the plans to them at all cost. A good strategic move. Actually it moves the plot along nicely. If she hadn't gone straight to the base then the Empire wouldn't have found them, there would have been no rebel attack, no sense of real danger, and therefore no ending to the movie.

Well i've just finished messing about with the test model shots and they haven't turned out as good as i hoped so there will be no new model shots included in the final battle. I will still be fleshing out the battle but i will have to use existing footage of the ships to do that now, which has made this a lot more difficult to pull off. oh well. If it was easy i would be bored

I hope that all the flaming that has happened recently can be put to rest now. I don't think that Neil S. Bulk had anything to do with the email that was sent to me. That person was a coward and Neil doesn't seem the type of person that would hide behind an anonymous email. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and Neil plainly voiced his. Even though he didn't mean it as an attack, it was worded probably the wrong way which did make it seem quite harsh and rude. But this doesn't mean that we should then start attacking him for his opinion. I knew when i started this that it would be hated by some of the OUT fans, but if everyone liked the same thing, wouldn't life be boring?

And on to the "plot hole". This isn't a plot hole and i really can't understand why you still think this. Here's some reasons why it isn't:
Vader " I told you she would never consciously betray the rebellion.."
Luke: "I've got your R2 unit. I'm here with Ben Kenobi. ."

Leia is strong minded and is able to keep the base secret during interrogation. She has no way of knowing if R2 has been delivered into the rebels hands and therefore they would be completely powerless against the power of the Death Star without the plans. But when she learns that R2 hasn't been delivered to the rebellion then she knows that, at all costs, she must make sure that he gets to the rebellion so they can use the plans to destroy the Death Star.
Leia: They let us go. It's the only explanation for the ease of our escape"

Leia may have had a suspicion that they would probably track the ship but the TIE battle confirmed this to her. She is pinning her hopes on the plans that R2 carries. It is a risky move, but even in wars on our planet, strategic moves like this are made. Sometimes its better for the enemy to come to you. Think of the amount of resources the rebellion would have had to use to get to the death star for the attack. Resources that they just don't have. If the Empire received word that the rebels were on their way for an attack then there was a chance that the Imperial fleet would also be there waiting for them ( think ROTJ).

All in all this is a "plot progression" and not a "plot hole". It doesn't conflict with anything said or done in the movie.

so lets put all the name calling etc. to rest now please
