Skywalking is my favorite: short yet effective. The others are soo long. Well, choose wisely (cit.) and good luck.

Thanks.

Can we stop thinking of names now and check the list of page 1 of this thread to see if you think there are any other video resources I could be using.

Cheers

I think the new MoveAlong project and EditDroid extras covers two of those.

Thanks for the reminder on Biggs though

I can think of the following additional video resources you could use if you're going to document any of the influences on the development of Star Wars:

-Hidden Fortress (there's even an interview with Lucas discussing this film on one of the DVDs of this)
-Triumph of the Will - the medal ceremony is heavily based on two scenes from that film.
-Fritz Langs Metropolis - for the origin of c3po - as portrayed in Ralph McQuarries early artwork where c3po is a direct copy of the robot from that film. Might be nice to show the evolution of c3po from metropolis robot, through mcquarries artwork to c3po proper.
-Original Buck Rogers serial for the origin of the title crawl
-Similaly the Flash Gordon serials
-There's also a possible vader influence in the villain from serial Fighting Devil Dogs

-Anthony Daniels segment of BBC4's 'Machine Men' might also be useful - thats one's still available on alt.binaries.starwars.

If you don't already know about it, I'd recommend this sites for more influences and info: Star Wars Origins

There's also this bit of trivia regarding Saint Tarkin

EDIT: I know you said no more titles but I'm going to throw out these two anyway:

S7en! That's more like it!

I did already know some of that info, but there were several things I didn't know. That 'origins' site is great!

Thanks so much for your help. This thing is growing fast!

Oh, shat! Completely missed this thread. Anyway, maybe someone's already mentioned it, but on the DVD documentary of Hitchcock's "Psycho", SW editor Paul Hirsch pops up with an interesting SW anecdote. Perhaps you're already aware of it, but he mentions how for the moment when the gang is hiding in the smuggling compartment on the Millennium Falcon, they used a cue from the "Psycho" score as temp music. When it came to actually scoring the movie, John Williams simply adapted the cue and left it in as an homage to Bernard Herrmann's work.

Also, the Criterion Collection of "Kind Hearts and Coronets" includes a rare hour-long chat with Alec Guinness from 1977. Of course, SW is mentioned towards the end and he briefly discusses how he feels about the film and relays his money anecdote (he says George offered him a 2% bonus, but when he bumped into Gary Kurtz, Kurtz said something like, "Oh, you mean the extra 1%?" and Guinness left it at that).

I always thought that part of Vader was based off of Dr. Doom from Marvel Comics...

Jambe,

In case you didn't already know, you should check out the old B&W movie The Dam Busters for heavy influences on the Death Star trench run.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

There may not be much there, but the making of the SE's programs have some stuff on the original films before the CGIed them all up.

I own the blue and red set from way back. They don't really show alternate takes but there are a couple of photos from deleted scenes. not forgetting the infamous Threepio photo in the green set! Thanks

All over it Erik. It's a film that I have been familiar with all my life. It gets shown quite a lot on UK TV. Thanks

I've got the press pack and a few interviews and news items (that I've passed to babyhum for a future release). Mark Hamill gives some particularly useful soundbites for my commentary track. Thanks.

Thanks all!

Is there anything additional in the Making of Star Wars Special Edition program on the SE laserdiscs or the various programs on OCPMovie's Special Edition Hype? I know these things are pretty repetitive, and re-uses the same interviews (mostly from the press pack) but there might be something new in there.

More title suggestions (try swapping the two halves of each title around as well) :-

Star Wars: A New Look - (I wish I could come up with a different word other than "Look", but you can see why I suggested it).

Behind Star Wars - (Suggested before, which I think is better than most of the others)

Star Wars: Journey Of The xxxx - (Whills, Creator, Dreamer, Revolution, I Dunno)

Star Wars: (The) Rebellion - (In line with how George Lucas was initially a rebel against the Hollywood Corporate machine etc)

The Journey of Star Wars - (It may not quite capture the essence of what your project is about, but it does look kinda snappy ... try the alternative at the bottom of this post)

Star Wars: Revealed - (Short, simple, revealing)

The Beginning: Star Wars - (where it all started, really)

Star Wars: Master(')s Apprentice - (suggestive of Obi-Wan and Luke)

Star Wars: The Journey - (I'm beginning to think that the word Journey evokes ... 1. a beginning to the creation of the SW saga ... 2. the moving forward towards an unknown and uncertain destination ... 3. a continual evolution of ideas and creativity, both conceptual and technical. Also, it invokes the original titling for the Journey Of The Whills series of SW stories)

Hope this helps.

I may be able to help you out with a PAL version of WSWRTW. Need to go through my collection but i know i recorded it when it was shown so it might still be on my HD of my DVD Recorder ( i really need to sort out all the stuff i have on there). I also have the making of star wars in PAL but its only a VHS copy, but i can transfer it easy onto DVD. Just let me know if they are any good.

I believe disc three of the lancer project has making of star wars pal.

did you get the unsung heroes pal yet?

somebody on these forums must have it.

was the THX official demonstration disc ever released in pal in the uk? if not someone's going to have to do a conversion. the laserdisc ntsc rip is not as good quality as i've heard of the real dvd.

not sure if the links work on the wayback machine, but issues 1-4 of bantha tracks from artoo's news cover the making of star wars, in pdf form no less.

they have the original american cinematographer articles up here under star wars episode IV just above the posting for the special editions. http://www.theasc.com/magazine/starwars/index.html

the biggest wealth of info for the making of star wars is going to be in the making of book, unfortunetely it's 75.00 dollars. another book that will be impossible to get is only being printed as a limited edition, the ralph mcquarrie book. there is no cinefex for star wars becuase they did not exist then. they only did two issues for empire issues 2 and 3, and 13 for jedi i believe .

some of the art behind the making of the film has been posted on the official hyperspace site, but cannot be used because of this sites rules. they have some of Alex Tavoularis production sketches some of which appear in the magic of myth, the art of star wars, and the best of the lucasfilm archives. not sure about the star wars chronicles as i don't own that one. some of the prototype storyboards are available to the public, i know because i have some of them for star wars but they are very bad photocopies sold on ebay. I also have the empire ones not the jedi one's. some of the IVor beddoes sketches have also been published in various places. I know the trade paperback for the special edition release of return of the jedi from dark horse has some sketch of ben kenobi versus vader.

An interesting Star Wars link to this film is the stunt co-ordinator and Tusken - Peter Diamond. Possibly worth an on-screen mention.
