What was the point of making the old movie in the first place if that's what you were going to do? It's cheating. You don't see the studios doing this with their old movies when a new installment in one of their franchises is released. In fact, you see the studios going more and more for an archival treatment of their films serieses on dvd. That's why Lucas has less and less of a leg to stand on with each passing day.
