Not sure if this was posted elsewhere, but there's a good article on the book here, with a few preview pics.

I'm really looking forward to this book. Looks like a truck load of rare pictures to be had, but the thing that bothers me from the previews is it seems to be heavy on images and light on text. Given the extensive archive mentioned in that starwars.com article, and that the original Making of Empire and Making of Jedi books are absolute goldmines of info, around 280 pages with maybe only a dozen pages of photos, I hope we're not going to be shortchanged on info here. There are already a glut of 'picturebook' style star wars books out there, I hope this doesn't become just another one. I like a bit of 'meat' to accompany my eyecandy, how ever pretty.

That said, the article mentions reworking the original Making of Empire and Jedi books into a similar format, and if they can do that without loosing text, those will be something to really look forward to. Also the hinted prospect of similar series of 'Making of Indiana Jones' books is potentially mouthwatering.

I was a little disappointed (but not surprised) by the SE shots in the book, but it looks like it will have more than enough rare pics to make it worth while.

Uhhhhh, I'm a bit confused. What SE shots are you talking about? I didn't see any.

too bad the hardcover edition has exclusive material as it goes for 75.00 dollars, what a ripoff. sure not as expensive as star wars chronicles but is it worth that expense.

the only really interesting thing is i read on starwars.com that they used the material from what was supposed to be the original making of book in 77 that was never published, because the Charles Lippincott had literally 50 interviews and thousands of pages of documents.

according to the official site "four boxes of Lippincott's interview transcripts literally thousands of pages of material" was available

i'd be much more interested in the raw material from the archives than the book being produced because you know it is gonna be special edition's crap and revisionism rather than a true behind the scenes of 1977.

I like Charlie Lippincott too bad they could'nt actually help him finish his original book with a bit of editorial assistance, i spent years trying to track this book down because there was an isbn for it on amazon.com, i found out later it was never published.

You know there gonna edit the crap out of it to, so george does'nt contradict his current self. the interiview he gave back then probalbly said there were twelve films. plus he needs to keep his original vision crap to be protected, so they will erase any mention of what the true vision for star wars was, and it certainly was not darth vaders story 1-6 crap.

It SOUNDS like there will be some real meat in there. If Rinzler was allowed to include what he wanted as far as the interviews that Lippincott conducted back in the 70's, as well as a lot of the information he found on his own through interviewing Hellman, Tong and Pollack (strange that there is no mention of Ladd Jr. and that they claim an inside view from Fox has never been explored as Ladd has been interviewed numerous times on what was going on behind closed doors at the studio), then this could really be a nice book to slip in front of Once Upon A Galaxy to form the Making Of trilogy on my bookshelf. For years that space has been occupied by Skywalking and Empire Building. The making of books from back in the day took a kind of warts and all approach to the subject from what I remember (been a few years since I read them). But sadly with the current state of LFL, I highly doubt that any kind of REAL look at Lucas' 70s-state-of-mind will be allowed to be released in an official form. Look at how Lucas treats any interview he did pre-SE. He laughs it off as if it was media bias and says that everything he said back then was taken out of context. While this certainly could be the case in some instances, the guy acts like the entire world was out to get him back then and that he didn't say ANYTHING that he is quoted as saying. He will even sit there and dispute quotes caught on video in his OWN LFL produced vintage documentaries! But, Empire Of Dreams was good and there have been a few other recently produced docs that touched on some of the real troubles that were going on back then. So who knows. This thing could end up being a really good read. I PRAY that they don't chop down the Lippincott interviews TOO much. Other than the BTS photos, those will be my most looked forward to aspects of this release.

Shit... now I feel like starting with Skywalking and reading all the way through the Making of Sith. Heheh.

I do like this quote, though...

"George Lucas's first recorded thoughts on the Expanded Universe. I didn't know if he'd want us to print those, as they differ from what came after, but he said it was okay!"

That gives some hope that this will be allowed to be what it should be and that is a look at the state of things as they were at the time the film was being produced. I am very excited to see what this becomes. And you won't have to shell out $75.00 for the hardcover. Amazon has it for $47 with free shipping. Only damn problem I have going there is that I ALWAYS end up buying something else! LOL. Anyone picked up that Sculpting A Galaxy book? I am looking at grabbing that as well.

I've been hoping for a while that this book would be a sign that the original versions are getting remastered, and who knows, maybe it is. Now that you point it out, Sluggo, that and several other stills are probably from the SE. The colors of the photos say as much.

If I see it in Chapters, I'll think about it. It's either this, or the Sin City Archive Edition.

This looks mighty impressive. And the hardcover is a good price at Amazon too.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.
