Finally got $$ permission from the ball-and-chain to get my Wii. Looking for info on what games people are playing (Twilight Princess a given). Is anyone playing Red Steel or Madden Football? Does Splinter Cell make use of the Wii-Mote? What do you folks recommend? Still have to wait a couple of weeks, but right around the corner and I'm starting to find it more and more (it was in my local Walmart the other day but didn't have the $$ at the time).

I finally got my Wii, only to have a spike go through my hand today at work. Hopefully I'll be back in action by the weekend.

Although I haven't played it myself, I've heard good things from multiple people about WarioWare.

You know how certain games are must haves for a system?

I'd say Wario Ware (based on the reviews) and Zelda are the "must haves" for the Wii.

This might be fun. Using Nintendo only, or it could get too muddled, what are your so-called must haves?

NES - Super Mario Bros.
SNES - Super Mario World
N64 - TIE: Ocarina or Goldeneye.
Gamecube - Metroid Prime
Wii - Twilight Princess
GB - Tetris
DS - Mario Kart (even though it doesn't make as an effective use of the hardware as say, Elite Beat Agents).

It is too hard to give only one per system.

NES - Super Mario Bros. 3, The Legend of Zelda
SNES - A Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country (Chronotrigger and maybe Super Mario RPG but RPGs are not for everyone, and Mario RPG came out when the spotlight was no longer focused on the SNES and the N64 was already in full swing, plus it was psychotically expensive for an SNES game.)
N64 - Super Smash Bros., Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye
Gamecube -
Wii -
GB - Tetris, Link's Awakening, (and for younger kids, the first two Pokemon games really are good introductions into the wonderful world of turn based rpgs, unfortunately Nintendo's over marketing has ruined what would have been a forgettable, quaint, and eccentric little game by beating us all over the head with it and destroying its reputation making it something to be loathed by anyone over the age of 11. In another universe, one where Pikachu was just one out of 150 like in the original game, this might have been considered a must have.)
DS -

Must haves,

NES- Mario Bros
SNES - Mario World
N64- Goldeneye 64
GameCube- Any Mario Party, or Mario Strikers, or Mario Tennis
Wii- Zelda TP and WarioWare, but those will be replaced by Mario Galaxy soon
DS- Mario Kart

Maybe it was different in Europe, but over here in the states, Mario RPG came out several months before the N64 was released, so, technically, Nintendo's spotlight was still on the Super Nintendo at the time.

I'll post my must-have list later today.

No, I am in the states too. I guess I was wrong. But it really seemed to slip under the radar, it seemed like nobody had ever heard about the thing. I had never even heard of it till long after the N64 was out. I remember it was still $60 bucks when most other SNES games were falling below the $30 dollar mark.

Didn't some places charge like $100 for them. I don't remeber well as I was like 7 at the time.

I don't know why, but for some reason I could have sworn you said you were from Europe. Sorry 'bout that. But, yeah, it came out early '96 because I remember at the end of my 4th grade year (95-96), a boy had his birthday party at class, and he got that game.

I remember seeing commercials for it but at the time my parents just didn't have the money to plunk down on getting me a sixty dollar game for an aging console. I hope it hits the VCS--it and EarthBound--sooner rather than later.

I loved that commercial. I still remember some quotes from it. It was this senile old man telling his grandkids the story. He had awesome delivery for "Legend of the Seven Stars!!!!", and before I played the game, I always thought Smithy was the sword sticking out of Koopa's castle because the old man referred to the villain as "Smithy the Sword."

I used to live in Europe. I think I did when I first started posting here so I might have said at one point.

OK...here's an obscure pc game reference. I believe the name was Crusader. It was a 3rd person "birds-eye" type game which was a shooter. It was quite innovative for the time in that you could assume control of robots and weapons located in other rooms on your current level. You could also use security cameras to monitor enemies. The main character wore red armor and had an interesting array of weaps. Anyone heard of it? Probably around 95.

It never got the recognition it deserved. It was a great console, and the controller was the most comfortable one I've ever held.

Good news is that the games will start being cleared out now and could be bought on the cheap - I saw Viewtiful Joe the other day for $15, brand new.

What GC titles dod you guys miss out on that you would pick up if you saw cheap?

For me, it'd be Animal Crossing.

You know, when it's all said and done, the game was not what it was hyped up to be, but better than what people say about it.

Rare had to rush it out the door, and as anyone who stuck with them throughout the N64 era knows, they ain't exactly in a hurry if you know what I'm saying.

The good news for Banjo Kazooie fans is that Rare/Microsoft has pretty much assembled the original team for the third installment, including (YES!) Grant Kirkhope who is one of the most underrated Video Game music composers working today.

Everyone goes (rightfully) nuts over Koji Kendo, but Kirkhope writes some tunes that get stuck in your head. I still walk around humming music from Grabbed By The Ghoulies which sucked except for the music...

I was thinking about Super Mario Bros Strikers (my kids both play soccer and LOVE Mario) which has consistently been $49 where I live since it came out for some reason. I've also seen and want to get Resident Evil 4 and perhaps some of the other Mario titles like Paper Mario, etc. I was also thinking about Harvest Moon as it looks like it might be a good game for my kids as well.

I'm thinking I might get another GC in the next couple of months and leave it in the box. I tend to get nostalgic for retired consoles for some reason. I actually thought of getting a PS2 also.

Hehe, the Playstation 2 is nowhere near retired yet, though.

Yeah really. I think they're using sales of that system as a lifeline in terms of their console business. It's probably still selling well. For $130 you can't beat it.

No kidding - Sony really knows how to spin numbers.

As far as getting another Gamecube goes, I've been thinking the same thing. Buy it cheap and keep it in the box for the future.

I wish I'd done that for the other systems. I actually bought an SNES for $25 at K-Mart when they went out of business here in Canada, and gave it away as a gift. Stupid.

I have seen sealed Gamcubes, both the Metroid Prime and Super Smash Bros. editions, going for $90 which is still a great deal.

I'm REALLY looking forward to the virtual console when I get my Wii. The lineup I saw on their website is tremendous. I never had another Nintendo console after the NES (until GC), so I've never played the stuff like Link to the Past, SMB64, SMWorld, etc. I'm excited to play this stuff that so many people consider classic.
