But isn't that what this whole project is about? It's not part of the landspeeder that looks like a battery, it's an actual car battery that is not part of the landspeeder design, and is not supposed to be there. Certainly, not supposed to be noticed by people who just can't let go of a 30 year old film.

Well i have been working on the scene with the Emperor and, mainly because of lack of usable dialogue, its looking that this scene will not be in my final edit. I don't want to add anything just for the hell of it and without the appropriate dialogue it would just be a redundant scene that doesn't need to be there. Plus i still want the scene to be in ESB and if i use most of the dialogue for ANH then that scene would have to be removed in ESB. But i am now looking at adding a very small extra scene as Vader flies away that will include a line of dialogue recorded for Vader that, originally for ANH, was inserted into ESB. So it looks like I'm going down the "hologram in cockpit" route now. I'll keep working on the Emperor scene but it is looking less likely to get finished.

I know what line that is. It will be interesting to hear it used in its proper place. Are you doing any modulation or manipulation to the voice?

Hey adywan,

I've been watching your progress in this thread for quite some time now, and I just wanted to commend you on both your technical achievements and your professionalism. The special effects you've incorporated into ANH are nothing short of amazing, and despite the countless criticisms this community has thrown your way regarding this edit (constructive or otherwise), you've taken it all impersonally while remaining receptive to some of the better suggestions that have been made.

Anyway, I just wanted to put in my 2 cents, and to let you know I think you're doing an amazing job. I must admit, I thought this would be a ridiculous endeavor at first, but after seeing what you've accomplished I must say I'm very excited to see the end result.

Keep up the great work.

An absolutely great idea. The line never worked in ESB anyway, stuck out like a sore thumb. It's perfect fan edit synchronicity to have it back in its rightful place.

Could someone tell me what line this is, please?

I understand where you're coming from, adywan. I know we've bugged you about it enough!
I still hope the emperor scene will still work. I feel that the information that is exchanged with the ESB DVD lines would help...and they don't fit in ESB-...I don't like seeing things go to waste!

Thanks. I never knew that that line was for ANH.

Hmm. Does that mean we'll see his star destroyer then?

That would ruin the big reveal in esb.

Or is it said as he flies off at the end?

Ok, it's time for me to SCREAM!!!.

Tonight I was adding the new effects into the main timeline of the edit and WHAM!!! Bloody power cut. It's ok, i thought, because i had only just saved it so no work lost. Restarted the computer and opened Vegas to continue and thats when i felt like getting a gun and shooting myself. Missing file. Not one of the finished effects though, but the complete main colour corrected track. Ok, i thought. don't panic i will use my recovery software to retrieve the track. Waited an hour for the software to scan the drive and thats when my heart sank. the file is corrupt and irretrievable.

So the bad news is that i have got to start from scratch on the main track and redo all the colour correction which means that a May release date is now looking highly unlikely. Bloody typical. I had backed up everything apart from the main track because its over 50gb and i was going to back that up at the end of this week when i get some more disks.

Well its a sleepless few nights for me while i try to recover lost time.

Since when was that line for ANH?

Where in the film would they use that?

I thought it was recorded especially for ESB SE.

Huh??

adywan - That really sucks man. The best of luck!

You can read about that line here in an interview with Ben Burtt.

It doesn't say where the line was going to go in 'Star Wars' though.

Adywan, now that I have woken from 'Returning to Jedi' mania, I just wanted to add my support and wish you all the best with this project. It's some undertaking, but I am sure it will be worth it.

That interview with Burtt was about the nerdiest thing I've read this week. Lot of things only a hardcore fan would care about.

Rotten luck on the crash, Adywan. Hopefully it won't be too much work this time as you already have had the practice.

Now, if anyone would know where abouts that line would be, I thought it'd be you man.

Shame on you Mr Davdar, shame on you!!

Oh man! So sorry Adywan - it doesn't save your color corrected settings in the program you're working on? You cant just replace the uncorrected file and re-apply the corrections from your project file? Or did you mixdown all of the changes into one file and you lost that? (I'm used to working this way in ae and fcp) As for sleepless nights, remember this is all supposed to be for fun and none of us are pressuring you to finish by a certain date, so make sure you don't sacrifice your health!

I still think Lucas is involoved in all these computer craches somehow. Or it could just be paronoia.

Hmm, Kinda like that movie 'Antitrust'.

Ady - take as long as you need, It would suck for you to be pressured to get this done. In any case you've got a lot of support here if you get stressed.

Yeh, there does seem to be a lot of those happening recently. maybe i'm just paranoid too.

Some good news, Luckily i have been able to load the new render of the main video into vegas and been able to recover most of the final colour scorrection. About 25% though has to be done from scratch because these parts were done earlier, but at least this is going to save me a lot of time. All colour corrected scenes up to the opening desert scenes were lost so i have to redo those and a couple of effect shots that had been rendered into the final colour correction were also lost. Luckily i still have the templates so should be able to redo those with ease, apart from the opening crawl and stardestroyer/Tantive shots, which were one of the first i ever did. Those templates have long gone so, un;less i can find the original footage in one of my backups, i will have to redo those too.

I've had a look at this shot and i think its going to be too tricky for me to fix. Don't forget i'm a newbie to FX work so i'm still in the learning process as i progress through this film. This will be something that i will try to fix at a very later stage so if it doesn't work then i won't have spent a lot of time that could have been spent on more important things.

Adywan, for a newcomer to FX, "youse got mad skillz".

Anyway, that particular shot is actually marked for trimming out in my own version, but I just thought I'd point it out to you in case you hadn't noticed it. So no grief from me if the shot remains unchanged.

Keep up the good work.

Good to see you narrowly avoided disaster there, Adywan. It sucks you still lost some stuff, but it could have been a lot worse. Anyway, if you have to push the release date back for whatever reason, we'll all understand. Nothing worth killing yourself over.

I have to say that in a way this setback has been a good thing, from a certain point of view. I've just finished all of the Tantive IV scenes and I've
been able to add a few tweaks that have improved the final output. The new lasers now look 100% better than i had originally done them, the colour is also much better and I've been able to tweak some of the flesh tones in a few shots that they are either too dark or too yellow. God Lucasfilm screwed up the colours.

Also i have just received a mock-up of the new Death Star schematics from the guy who is doing the 3D work. It's amazing. I can't wait to have the final shots to put in the edit. But you'll have to wait until the DVD is finished because this is something I'm keeping a secret.

Anyway, i'm about 60% done on redoing the lost footage so things are going faster than i had anticipated but a May release date is still looking unlikely though
