Meco - Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band

The radio station I listen to has a feature everyday, at lunch, where they play 10 songs from a certain year. The songs are pulled from what was popular according to Billboard magazine. Here's one from this past week. The year was 1977;

10cc - The Things We Do For Love
Eric Clapton - The Core
Lynyrd Skynyrd - I Know a Little
Pablo Cruise - A Place in the Sun
Graham Parker - Hold Back the Night
Fleetwood Mac - I Don't Want to Know
Ram Jam - Black Betty
Foreigner - Cold As Ice
Doobies - Echoes of Love
Meco - Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band

For those of you too young to remember, The Meco - Star Wars piece got a ton of air play that year. I'd forgotten how funny sounding it was. Cheesy blaster noises, R2D2 sounds, alien noises at the start of the transition to the Cantina portion, etc. If you can find it as an MP3 download anywhere, it's great cheese, man. It's an interesting look into just how crazy-popular Star Wars was that year.

Makes me feel old, though.

For those of us on this site to have survived the disco era, Meco certianly has an in interesting place in our experiences. This might have signaled the end of an era, though. Movie themes used to get tons of adio play back in the 50's and 60's.

I love Meco disco adaptation of 70s soundtracks such as SW, ESB and Close Contacts... Can't get anymore cheesier than that.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Heh, I remember this. I wasn't quite born when it came out, but I remember hearing the song at some point in my childhood.
