Mark and Jaberdoo have contacted this guy. Lets be sensible and leave it at that. As you say we don't want to get too over excited.
(Sorry I don't mean to sound patronising. I just want to make sure we aquire this doco).

I have just heard from another potential source saying:

"Might have that lying around"...

Sorry about the cynicism. Before I found about OT.com, I had to get all my rarities through guys selling tapes at the cons. Of course, this was a long time ago. DVDR's were still pretty new. But I digress...

Should we obtain a copy of this, does someone on here have plans to release this as a stand alone project?

If I obtain a decent copy from someone who is happy for it to be disrtibuted then I would like to release it.

Babyhum seems a likely candidate. Perhaps I will work with him to ensure everyone gets to see it. But hey let's not get carried away just yet.

By the way, I should know by tomorrow from one of my leads and by monday from the other.

I agree, let's not get carried away. We've only known about this for a few days. These things can take time. I'd be honoured to release it as and when it come available. Let's work together and see what we can come up with.

Hi Guyz,

looking with great interest at the developments on this tread. I have thought about it for 2 days now and can promise you this: if you guys find another copy of this which proves it was released/shown in some form, and if my copy's quality is better, I will create a fan copy of my tape.
The reason for this is: I made this promise in the understanding that it was a special that was never released in any form. If that proves to be untrue or when a lower quality version of this program is already out there I see no reason to hold out on this one. I will just not be the guy that brings this out there and break my initial promise.

I am, however, hyped to speed up things with my website and will work on it non stop this weekend. I will release the website sooner than intended and leave a lot of the other stuff that I was planning out. This will all be added at a later time as updates. How's that.....

I have selected a few clips from the program for the website that will be shown in the flv format that I think are special. Here's one of them.

I tried to initiate a trade with him, but he's only interested in what's on his want list, which is like 2 titles. Anyway, I emailed him back requesting more information about his "Making of Empire Strikes Back", hopefully I'll hear back from him. I'll let you all know.

Not to further complicate things, but I just found this list online:

That guy has both SPFX and Making of Empire Strikes Back available for trade. I'm thinking that perhaps this may not be as rare as we think, which is good because maybe we can see it.

I remember trading with this guy years ago, and he was great to deal with. My point is that while he doesn't have the Making of Empire special, he does have a ton of stuff related to Empire that I haven't seen anywhere else. I have to go through my old Star Wars VHS compilations (of which I have 8 or so) to see what of this stuff I have to share with all of you. (And especially those of you who can turn VHS to AVI or DVD).

This has aired before. I have seen it. I had it on tape when I was a kid. I started a thread a looooong time ago asking if anyone else knew of it, but it is long gone. I had convinced myself that I was thinking SPFX, however, I remembered footage that is NOT in SPFX and now after seeing those screen shots, I know I have seen it. I'm not crazy after all! This must be shared!

Hi 20th Century Mark, it appears you are right

I remember a specific scene showing how they filmed the first AT-AT being taken down using a four foot model. I don't remember seeing that in SPFX.


I have checked the program and there is a section about the fall of the first AT-AT.


Is this proof enough?

I still have heard nothing from thewizard_7 about it.

Ok, time to own up... I didn't want to mention it (because I was one of many that contacted him) but soon after you found that link Mark, I complied with thewizard_7 requirements asked for a copy of "The Making of Empire". I thought the direct approach might work.

And... I just got this reply:

"Thanks, will work on this this weekend"

If it's the wrong one... then I will have another copy of SPFX on DVD

Terrific quality clips, and interesting discussion. Rare to see old video in such a sharp condition.

The fact that you are being so careful about distributing it, is the very reason you have the video to begin with - that is, you are someone who can be trusted. Just ignore the crazies - it is the internet, after all
