Zelda TP: Finished, gonna take a while before I go back to that game, maybe do some fishing, I was not able to fish anything at the pond.

Super Monkey Ball banana Blitz: 2 levels from world 7 and world 8 to go.

WarioWare Smooth Moves: Around 99.9% done, got all the minigames there, but I think I still have one last think to get 9I wasn't able to pass the "sudden death elephant" stage.

Super Castlevania 4: Hooked up that game again, mostly for research reasons (long story), can't pass by that giant skull boss.

Mario Kart DS: My game got completely erased for some reason, still a three or four stages on mirror to go - luckly I've been getting 3 stars on all the races so far.

Ganon killed me two seconds after I unpaused the game...

I beat him the last two times with less than half my hearts and on my first try. Over all the game was really fun, but too easy and too short. I really enjoyed the graphics, really reminded me of the good ol' SNES days. I think it is a good starter game for introducing a younger generation to the series.

You beat Vaati on your first try? Wow. And Zelda 2---That's one hard game. Well, the fact that it is hard doesnt' really bother me. I just hate that if you die, you have to start back at the Ancient Zelda shrine. So frikkin' stupid. I'd love to see a Metroid: Zero Mission style remake, that's still difficult, but still uses modern design principles.

For the sake of not loosing hours of your life, I would recommend using a game genie with the infinite lives code. I normally would not recommend using a gamegenie on anything, but for Zelda II the infinite lives code does little to help you or make the game any easier other than making it so you do not have to restart at that damn shrine over and over and over and over again, the game is still very difficult. If you play it through an emulator most of them have a built in game genie function. For people who are not going to beat this game any other way, I beseech you to play it this way, then at least you will have the thrill of seeing the whole game through.

As for beating Vaati on the first try, are you sure it was anything? All you had to do was dodge him and figure out how to hurt him. The first round against him I though was the very end. I came in charged up with a couple of bottles of fairies. It wasn't too hard, but I really thought it was the end and I only had half my hearts left by the time it was over. Then on round two all you had to do was flip his arms as soon as they came out of the ground, shrink and avoid getting hit by the little eye balls. That was probably the hardest part. Then the four eyes things, that was time consuming, but easy to dodge his attacks. Then round three was a joke. He just bounced around. You could break open the purple things to get hearts and arrows and take all the time to beat it you needed. I guess it would be hard if you tried to rush through it, but if you take your time all his attacks are very easy to avoid.

I started playing Oracle of Seasons. So far I am really enjoying it. I am only on the third dungeon and I was noticing how much more difficult the puzzles are than Minish Cap's. You said Seasons was the one that was lite on the puzzles, in that case I think I am really going to enjoy Ages.

Yeah, Ages has some brain teasers.

There's one dungeon in Jabu Jabu's belly that has the water-level changing elements of Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess' Water Temple.

My problem with Vaati... I kept getting hit by those fireball things he shoots, and for a while I coudn't figure out how to beat one of his forms. Also, I didn't have but one or two fairies.

So, anybody here have a Wii Number? Mine is:

yay to classic anything. How great would it be if they re released the power pad? Or even better the Zapper? I guess light guns are a bit too unPC for Nintendo's more or less squeaky clean image, of course I think the Wii is slipping a bit on that so maybe. I sure do miss my duck hunt (actually I still have my NES, but I always get the cursed blinking red light of doom and it is a pain in the rear to trying to get the game to hit the connectors just right. I wish I had one of those top loading models).

Anyone get Wii Play?

Can't decide whether to purchase or not based on reviews, but the price seems reasonable considering it comes with the ever elusive Wiimote.

That's defintiely a Yay. The D-Pad is far superior to the one on the WiiMote, and it's pretty much a must-have for some VCS games like Sooper Castlevania IV. It's basically an SNES controller with 2 extra shoulder buttons and 2 joysticks added.

I would. Laser Hockey sounds like fun, but more importantly, it's only ten bucks extra from the price of the WiiMote.

Just picked up the Wii Classic Controller and downloaded LOZ and LOZ: ALTTP, two games which I am ashamed to say I never finished.

Kotaku (or maybe Joystiq...?) had a blog about games they were ashamed that they'd never played. I thought it might be cool for us to post up our lists of games you're ashamed to admit you've never played - at all.

And we call ourselves gamers...

- Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past
- Street Fighter II
- Anything starting in Final and ending in Fantasy.
- Chrono Trigger
- Super Metroid
- Metal Gear Solid 3
- Super Mario Bros. 3 (!!!)
- Metroid Prime
- Katamari Damacy
- Castlevania: Symphony of The Night (OK, I had it (PS1), played an hour of it, packed it up, and then an ex-girlfriend took the box it was in when she moved out. Fucking hell.)
-God Of War
-Grand Theft Auto (any of them)
-Half-Life (1 or 2)

That's about it...I've played pretty much every other "all time classic" game I can think of...Oh, one more. I started Majora's Mask but couldn't get used to the save system so I gave up...maybe I'll dust it off another time.

Definately Yah! I can't for the life of me figure out why there are 2 analog sticks, but it's a great controller.

As with everything post-SNES Nintendo, it feels natural in your hands and is very comfortable to hold. Plus, since you're playing classic NES, SNES, N64 etc...games, it does a great job from a design sense of being a sort of tribute to all of their old controllers.

I think if the SNES were released today, the controller would be something like the Classic Controller. It's awesome. I can't say enough good thingd about it, of course I'm still on my Wii high.

I got the Wii Saturday after standing in -20 C weather, snow and ice, for 9 hours. I knew the store was getting a minimum of 20 in, and there was NO WAY IN HELL I was missing out this time around. I was 1st in line and snagged extra controllers, nunchuks and Zelda. So awesome...

I haven't attempted to fight Ganon again since my utter defeat last week. Honestly, I'm just a little bit nervous about having to tackle Level 9 all the way over again from the beginning. Wizzrobes infest half the rooms, and they are gruesome in the first game.

One question: do all the games that demand a classic controller can be played with a gamecube one? If so, I see no reason for buying a classic controller.

All Nintendo VC titles are to be supported by the GameCube Controller. Not all Sega Genesis/Megadrive and TG16 games will be supported.

Oh, tell me about it! I finished Zelda II back in the day, Link's Awakening, OOT (several times), Wind Waker, Minish Cap and the Oracle games, but I never owned LOZ or played it for more than an hour, and never owned LTTP...how could I go for so long without playing those?

As an aside, what is everyone's thoughts on Nintendo's shoddy emulation of certain games on the VC?

Two games have been criticized for not being 100% accurate, namely Kid Icarus (different cheat codes) and Mario Kart 64 (no Ghosts). Personally, I feel that a game should be exactly the same as the original, flaws, bugs etc. and all. When there are too many enemies on the screen in an NES game, I want to see the same slowdown I saw back in the 80's. It really bothers me some games aren't perfectly emulated, and others will be altered - namely Ocarina of Time.

Now, I'm not sure if anyone has played OOT on the Wii yet, as I think it only came out in Japan thus far, but I'm guessing it is the politically correct version with the altered Gerudo symbol and Muslim prayer chant gone, plus Ganon's green blood...I guess I'm a bit of a purist and like to play games the way they always were when I first played them - which is why I still have most of my old systems hooked up...

I agree with you about playing games the way they were meant to be played. I am a purist in that way too. I extend this purism to films, hence my fondness for this site.

I remember waiting anxiously for A Link to the Past, and being disappointed when I couldn't go around Hyrule and see everything in its new fixed and normal state once I beat the game. When I first got sent into the Dark World and found out that the game was twice as big as I was expecting it to be and found myself to be a little pink bunny, I stood up then and there and declared it my favorite game of all time. It is a game that never disappoints (well, expect for the whole not being able to talk to people after you save them and there world for certain doom). The first Zelda game was my all time favorite for the NES. It is funny to think that I bought it at a used game store because of its shiny gold cartridge and the name "Zelda" sounded really cool. Oh, and it had a cool looking shield on the cover. I still love playing that game. That is why the less than perfect (but very close) port/remake for the PC (called "Zelda Classic" if you want it google it, it is easy to find and completely free) is always one of the very first programs to be installed every time I reformat or get a new PC. It even has an option to use the SNES style BS Zelda graphics (speaking of games not in their original form). One of the best parts is its level editor so you can design your own world and dungeons.

Yeah, that's what I love about the Mega Man Anniversary Collection. The GameCube control configuration might have people scratching their heads, but it's a nearly perfect gameplay port right down to the rampant slowdown, which I loved. The only problems that I could tell was that the font for the opening text of IV was different and didn't synch up to the music properly, and that the music for VI was different than my original version (maybe, like OoT, they changed the music prior to or following the version I have). The only really big problem is that the ending for VII is completely gone because it was too hard for them to emulate the Mode 7 graphics. They've done it before, I don't see why they couldn't do it here!

After having been brainwashed by every Mega Man game ever released, I could not forgive the messed up control scheme in the Gamecube collection. They should have at least included a button-configuration option. As it is, it's unplayable for me. Thirty bucks down the drain.

I tried to play the MegaMan Aniversary Collection but I kept getting killed on level two of Megaman 2. I think my step brother took it with him when he moved out of my dad's house.

Really? I was bitching at first, but now it's gotten quite comfortable. It was a pretty stupid move on whoever's part it was who decided that, but it's not unworkable. And I loved the G4 documentary that came with the GCN version.

Well, I know I could get used to it eventually, but it's retarded that I'd have to. I still own most of these games anyways. I just wanted to own them in a more reliable form (since my old cartridges and NES aren't working as well as they used to). I guess I was just pissed that I hadn't looked for a warning about the control interface. I simply assumed the control setup would make sense and purchased the collection on the basis of the awesome games alone. :\
