Something to consider if you want to make things a bit more frightening and less "cheesy": there was quite a bit of music that got cut from the final film. There was original music written and recorded for the scene where they are taking the tour and there is no T-rex; the full sequence from the point where Ellie and Muldoon go to the power shed all the way up until the end of the "Clever girl" scene was originally scored with tense music; and the raptor/kitchen hiding scene was originally scored starting when they see the raptor shadow. Additionally, the T-rex's entrance was originally scored with more action-oriented music. I believe there is even more than that. You can actually see the clips with their intended music at YouTube. The user's name is BrachioInGen, I believe. I don't recall what the titles of the videos are, but if you search "Star Wars Symphonic Forces," there are several clips under that. That's the guy. Just go to his user page and all of his videos are there. There was also unused music for The Lost World and JPIII, but I haven't seen those so I wasn't sure what they contribute. However, the kitchen scene is definitely more intense with the intended music. It's worth checking out if that's the direction you want to take.

Good luck!
