From what I've read, the German company who released the DVD put WTW on there unofficially, from a bootleg source. I doubt it's any different from the crappy version we've all seen thus far.

I'm surprised that Anchor Bay have been so successful in keeping the version of WOODS they prepped out of unwelcome hands. I've heard a few people say they saw the amazing job they did yet it has seemingly never left AB HQ. When it was withdrawn from the DVD, I thought for sure it would eventually leak - first among the big shots in the scene and then trickle down to the online community.

Oh, and for the record, apparently it was Raimi himself who put for kibosh on WITHIN THE WOODS. Not due to music rights, not because it starred an embarassed governor's daughter (or some such nonsense) but simply, it would seem, due to Raimi's own insecurities as a perfectionist filmmaker. Sounds strange but then this is the guy that has done his own fair share of Lucas-esque tinkering with THE EVIL DEAD in recent years (e.g. re-framed shots, ropey effects excised etc.).

Yes, Bruce has said in the past that Raimi didn't want to "show his pimply ass to the world". Terrible shame. And I agree, it's nothing short of amazing the AB remaster of WTW hasn't leaked. Or the workprint copy of Army Of Darkness used for the DVD deleted scenes.

Anchor Bay posted screencaps of the remaster work they did and it looks pretty good. I have the pic somewhere. Anyway I doubt it has enough popularity to be leaked, I'm sure people would rather keep their jobs then be known as the fellow who leaked a nice copy of Within The Woods. Still would be nice though.

Gonzo's got it now and will probably watch it before I do.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Just to stick a post up on this thread as its been dead for a while now, I'm looking at a slightly different version of this project. I know the dawn of the dead project fell by the wayside but I don't think I knew what I was letting myself in for & how stupidly difficult it would be when I started it.

Since I got the Evil Dead Ultimate Edition DVD, I've been giving thought to editing some of the 60mins of raw footage from this DVD & the 20mins of raw footage on the eariler elite DVD back into the film. Much of the new stuff is covered in the script, but was edited out later. I would also re-title the film to book of the dead. This project would have to be done in 16:9 as all the raw extra footage on the UE DVD only in 16:9.

I'm doing some tests at the moment seeing if I can match the evil dead title font/style to change it convicingly to book of the dead. Rather than firmly commit myself to this project I'll have a mess around with some of the footage and make a later post as to how I get on.

Just to respond to earlier posts by cashflagg and bigrob - do you still have your rips of the "Behind The Screams" featurette from the Evil Dead 2 laserdisc?

I'm looking for a copy for a to-be-announced-very-soon ED2 project, and would be more than willing to do a trade. Anyone who can help, please PM.

Even though that LE DVD might be a pressed disc, if withn the Woods is included it is a bootleg.

I'm hoping the quality is better than what we have seen over the years though.

Tom Sullivan shows his copy at conventions all the time. Has enyone ever seen one of his screeningings to see the quality?

Shame - since I recently found out about a subtitled Greek VHS release that still has the original Book Of The Dead title on the film...
