So can we look forward to a Returning to Jedi Special Edition release with changes?

My Epson r200 is an absolute workhorse. Paid under $100 for it new in '04. It has printed literally thousands of discs and covers for me. I'd wholeheartedly recommend whatever the current version is. I know you have one of the discs and covers that my r200 printed ...

Since I never gave a full, proper review, add me to the list of people that absolutely loved this. Just like with Building Empire, there were plenty of things that I had no idea about. I loved seeing the intermingling of the different media too (story of album, radio play, etc). This truly is an awesome documentary. Every fan of Star Wars needs to see this.

The only other trouble I had with this, and I'm sure it's related to my cheapo DVD player, was a 2 sec jump in chapter 16 when Leia first meets Wicket. I played the disc on the computer and it plays just fine though, so I'm definitely chalking it up to my set top player.

Thanks again for all your hard work Jambe!

Thanks for taking the time to give me feedback lordjedi.

Re: Continued request to upload to Youtube:
I guess there are some people who just dont have the facilities or know-how to download the torrent, so I thought I would take another approach. I have managed to split the ipod version of the film up into 100MB chunks. They are longer than 10 minutes, so they are no good for youtube. Do you have any suggestions on my next step?

How about Rapidshare?

You could possibly try Google Video as opposed to YouTube. I'm not familiar with how it works but I know that I've seen some vids there that are longer than 10 minutes.

Just tryin to help. Less than 1 hour to go on my torrent until I can watch it (FINALLY)

If you sign up for a "Director" account on YouTube, you can upload much longer clips. The filesize limit stays at 100 MB, but the videos can be as long as you like.

Hope that helps!

Take care,
Sojourn

P.S. And as the previous poster said, Google Video is another viable alternative, as well.

Is the plan to Tube the whole thing? Some of the text may not be legible at that size.

I thought that too. I was just going to try and see if it worked but I don't have the time to split the doco up into over 20 parts and post them individually.

The 'director account' doesn't look like it's for me having read the description.

I am currently loading the first part to Rapidshare. It's taking a rather long time.

And if any of you ever fancy a chat you can now catch me on AIM/ichat under jambedavdar.

You know... this project has given me a newfound respect for ROTJ. Til now I always thought of it as Star Wars' ugly sister. Still only halfway through (I'm savouring it) but so far I have been extremely impressed with the sandstorm & lightsabre construction scenes and the rare photos and footage accompanying them.

Lucasfilm should take a good long look at themselves for letting a fan put their work to shame in this manner. They should stand up, take note and give this man a job!

So let it be written, so let it be done.

In that case, I would recommend Google Video -- I think you'll be able to post it in its entirety, and at a fairly decent resolution to be able to read all of the text (and if you enable it, people will be able to download an iPod-ready version from Google!).

First off "Cheers Jambe", I feel I'm about to develop a new respect for a film I always thought of as a joke. Well half of it maybe.

Secondly, having got the DL PAL version off Demonoid and applied the patches, then run the whole thing through pgcEdit (layer break at Ch18) and finally ImgBurn I've got a DL disc that plays ok in my PC but is an 'invalid disc' when I pop it in one standalone dvd player and plays the menu screen just once when placed in another...

Can anyone tell me how they went from their patched DL PAL vob/ifo set to finished dvd ? (I assume people are burning the whole thing, DVD-ROM folder and all).

Is the set now on a.b.sw any different to this patched set (other than extra artwork) ?

Bobafeta, thanks for you very kind comments!

Colink, I just overwrote the old files with the fix files and burned with Toast.

Ok, my friends, Parts 1 and 2 of 23 is up on youtube.com

Unfortunately I didn't have the time or software resources to start and end them on clean edit points. By hey, it's free!

If you look at it, please take the time to comment and leave a rating.

Thanks
JD

Huh? The ugly sister? You're talking about my favorite of the trilogy right there, and how you could call it ugly in comparison to A New Hope is very puzzling to me. Oh well, but that still makes no sense.

I can't speak for Boba, but for me it's a generational thing. That first film I will always refer to as Star Wars, no bloody subtitle or chapter heading-- folks who are comfortable calling it A New Hope I think are also more comfortable viewing the films as one solid work, with Jedi holding all the climaxes and resolutions. To me the films are three very different animals with different merits.

And I've always found Leia's Empire snowsuit sexier than that harem outfit.

Looks pretty good considering.

Can I assume you are about to leave a comment and a rating on youtube my good friend?

I applied JD's IFO patch set and then went in and did further IFO editing to change some of the content's viewing behavior from pan&scan to letterbox on a 4:3 display.

From a viewer's perspective (other than no P&S) there is no difference. It is not a new version of the edit. It just works the way the torrented version should have originally. In the usenet post nfo I said that it should be considered v1.0.1

Sounds like JD's been working on his own personal v1.1...

Hi MoveAlong,
Thanks for the info, though I have used IfoEdit in the past it was following instructions. I'm not confident enough to just dive in (yet).

Burning DL dvds on my older LG (supposedly a DL burner) drive and setting book type to DVD-ROM gave me two coasters.
Switching to a new Pioneer drive (can't set book type on this) gave me a nice playable DL dvd first time. Phew !
So, the story is, torrent the DL PAL version - apply patch (from page 1) - create .iso (pgcEdit) - burn .iso (ImgBurn) WITH A DECENT MODERN DRIVE !! oh, and keep seeding.

Loved Story Of Star Wars btw.
