Tiptup, the whole pulled tips thing is getting pretty common anymore. I think it is retarded. It completely defeats the whole point of tipping. You can have a truly awful waiter and he gets as much in tips as the most polite of waiters. This type of thing encourages crappy waiting.

My wife was in New York last month and went out to eat with her sister at a Japanese restaurant. She said the service wasn't bad, but it wasn't the greatest. When they got they got the bill it already had a 20% tip added right into the price. I think forced tipping like that also defeats the purpose of tipping. You don't even have to do a good job and you still get a 20% tip.
