Let's not forget a government-enforced patent on a programming language (which should be a very weak patent at best in my opinion). (Not that I have anything against patents, but I think they're far too prolific and powerful right now. In general, everyone is in danger of being sued by everyone else these days and competitive freedom is certainly dwindling as a result.)

Otherwise, Bill Gates is a smart guy and I don't criticize him for his success, but I'd rather not use their products if I were given the choice. Their one-size-fits-all approach and their arrogance in thinking they KNOW what everybody wants really turns me off.
