Lost Prequel Ideas

This might be cool...hopefully it will catch on....I think previous attempts have faltered...

...come up with some ideas of how you would have wanted the prequels to go or some cool thing you wanted to see....

1. Vader and the Emperor hunt down the Jedi Knights with the help of Boba Fett and a host of Mandalorian Warriors.
2. The Kyber Crystal was referenced in some early drafts of SW and then in the Splinter Of The Mind's Eye novel. Would have been cool if this thing would have made an appearence and played some kind of part in the plot of the prequels.
3. General Kenobi and General Skywalker leading armies in the Clone Wars.
4. Have one of the main characters be an Ithorian (Hammerhead for the uninitiated).

Feel free to contribute....

Come on....no one's got any ideas for what they would've liked to see in the prequels?

It's funny how the last two things you listed actually were covered...just not in the movies. You've got to love how Lucas leaves the least interesting parts of the prequel era to the movies while simultaneously putting the best parts in the EU (translation: $$$$$$).

On the subject of previous backstories from the 70's, I seem to recall reading in one version of the opening crawl/prologue about Mace Windu and his master from such and such planet. Obviously Lucas changed it all around and retained only the character's name by the time he wrote TPM, but it's yet another planet name he could have used. Instead he kept going back to Tatooine and Coruscant for what seems like half of the entire trilogy. That's one major fault of the PT, Coruscant is like this HQ which the characters can fly back and forth between. That's BORING. TPM isn't quite as guilty of this, but it did spend a bit too much time on Tatooine. I remember feeling kind of dissapointed when I found out Anakin was from the same damn planet as Luke. I think it was on the OS sometime before the movie was released. Everything on Naboo and Coruscant works just fine, although again I wonder why the Jedi Temple was there and not on some other planet. Yes, I know it's all a part of their downfall as an Order, but it's yet another step towards making the universe feel very small and closed off.

As for AOTC, well, I don't really know where to start. This is where the PT starts to feel like a TV miniseries more than an actual trilogy of movies. It was only a gearing up for the Clone Wars, and the only good stuff is at the Battle of Geonosis. Besides that, it serves to set up Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru just so we know who they are at the end of ROTS. Speaking of which, on to that film.

My biggest problem was the ending, would've liked to have seen only the fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan for those ten minutes. Cutting away to Yoda and Palps was just an excuse to lessen the quality of both duels. Again, it's too much about Coruscant. I also remember hearing that Anakin would be collecting various pieces of the Vader armor throughout the film, too bad. The Vader armor just felt really tacked onto the ending of the movie. With the flip of the swithc we go from PT land to OT land.

Ooo, fun thread! I would pretty much scrap all 3 movies and take it from the top, and I would DEFINITELY eliminate all the connections between Yoda and Chewbacca, C3PO and Anakin, some of the planets, etc.:

TPM:
-Starting Anakin out as a young adult and briefly touching on his childhood, but getting totally rid of the whole virgin birth stuff; retains the mystery of his character.
-Totally scrapping the whole Midichlorians (sp?) thing.
-Touch on the politics and the behind the scenes corruption of the Republic.

AOTC:
-Showing a MUCH BETTER version of Anakin's transformation, and a MUCH BETTER love story between him and Padme. Maybe throw Obi-Wan in there too to cover the jealousy aspect; could've been an interesting sub-plot.
-A MUCH BETTER clone war, complete with the Mandalorian Warriors (and FYI, the lack of this was one of the most disappointing things about AOTC to me).
-Maybe show Chewbacca/the Wookies back story; would've been easy to tie in w/ the Mandalorians.
-Padme getting pregnant and hiding it from Anakin because she can already see the change in him.

ROTS:
-Anakin becoming Darth Vader much sooner in the movie and fighting and destroying Jedis like Mace Windu.
-Shown more of the Emperor and the rise of the Empire.
-LEFT IN THE REBELLION SCENES and expanded on them!
-Luke and Leia being born, but Vader not really knowing about them. You would tell through the 2nd and 3rd movies he suspects it, but A) never really sure b) doesn't know there are twins and C) may even think the child is Obi-Wan's; goes back to my whole sub-plot thing.

Also, I would've named each movie something different probably, but I am using the original titles for the ease of reference.

ESHBG - you're hired, now go shoot the movies!

I would've also liked to see a TEAM of Jedi Knights (rather than the Council all sitting around on chairs all the time), with Anakin part of them, a team that would bond over the first 2 movies like our heroes in the OOT gradually did - he would then betray them and it would up the drama stakes considerably. The jealousy subplot would work along with this - Anakin destroys from the inside, but in a much more emotionally engaging way.

I really liked the article "Looking Back to the Future of Star Wars." Not of This Earth Summer 1994 Special by John L Flynn. In it he theorises on what the prequels might contain. He makes some clever connections and some interesting points. To me his ideas felt much more 'Star Wars' than Lucas's eventual efforts.

I know what I thought the prequels would have that never materialized. I wanted to see Vader, in the suit, hunting down Jedi. I also figured that the Grand Moff Tarkin would have some sort of role, and probably a pretty important one, basically to explain why Tarkin can tell Vader off and he doesn't just kill him like he would any other imperial officer. Another one is that I expected Jabba the Hutt to also play some sort of role, due to the fact that the force doesn't work on him, and I figured for some reason that the empire made some sort of deal with him, maybe getting his help in the Jedi purge, in exchange for them letting him operate unhindered. Alas, none of these happened.
