I agree completely. I really like Serenity, but it did look and feel somewhat amateurish and/or tv show-ish.

I agree completely. I really like Serenity, but it did look and feel somewhat amateurish and/or tv show-ish.
I am not really sure how I would have felt leaving the theater, had I seen it in the theater, if I had not seen the show first. Somebody said they saw the movie first and loved it. I am not so sure I would have. I guess it kind of has a sequel feel to it, if I knew nothing about Firefly, and I were flipping through channels and saw this thing on the Sci-fi channel, I think I'd probably guess that it was the second half of some two part mini series.

Oh, you should really try to get your hands on the DVDs. If you liked the film, I am sure you would really like the show.

Well, when I say it was amateurish, I'm not necessarily talking about production values. I'm talking about camera angles, lenses, editing, ect all seemed like he was filming it for tv, or was just relying on what he learned from filming for tv while making the movie. It just wasn't very cinematic.

For the TV show Joss wanted to give it an amateurish kind of feel. Not really amateurish I guess, but he wanted to give it kind of a rough feeling. Like I mentioned before, the whole show seems like it was filmed with handy cams, except for the scene with the alliance. Perhaps he was trying to carry that feeling over to the movie. I agree with you Windexed, the made-for-tv feeling had nothing to do with budget. It doesn't feel very cinematic, I was very surprised at this when I first watched it. From all the hype have I heard about it for various people, I was expecting it to be one of the greatest sci-fi movies of the modern age. I wanted to see the movie but my friend said it is better if you watch the show first, so one of the main reasons I watched the show was so I could see the movie. But in the end I liked the show a lot better than the film.
