I agree with you that Tolkien's world is beyond Rowling's, but what scene in the first Harry Potter book mimics Bilbo riddling with Smaug? I can't think of one.

Hmm, I looked into the whole Bilbo and dragon thing a little more. Actually that whole sequence is very similar to parts of Beowulf. Tolkien borrowed plenty of things from plenty of different myths and legends. I think he would actually be proud that new writers and borrowing from the legend he wrote.

Rowling is a hack i mean I read some of the first book and the writing was fairly juvenile and derivative and ripped off of tolkien very badly in some obvious places. I think it's funny because I saw an interview with her on t.v. where she does even try to disguise that she ripped off tolkien heck she said she read those when she was a kid. the fact that she intirely plagiarised one of my favorite moments in the hobbit the one between bilbo and smaug the dragon in the first potter book told me this book belonged thrown in the trash."
I search google but did not find anything specific here. All I found were a few web pages pointing out that she stole the idea of wizards, goblins, dragons, giant spiders, and countless other things from Tolkien. I would also like to point out that I believe she stole the word "the" and "and" from Tolkien as well. You will find that Tolkien used these two words quite often and she plegerizes him by using them quite often as well.
