The Insider magazine has had its ups and downs. Ever since the prequels, the Insider has been mostly about hyping the next movie, which I think is a very shallow approach. It's basically turned into Entertainment Weekly for Star Wars. Back before the prequels, the Insider was full of interesting retrospectives (Wonder Column) and thoughtful articles (like the article on the Lost Cut). If Titan can return to that, then I might get interested again.
But I will NEVER subscribe to the Insider as long as it's bundled with the way-overpriced Hyperspace. They really need to offer separate subscriptions.
Actually, I wish they would just eliminate Hyperspace altogether, since it's basically a subtle attempt to control Star Wars content on the Internet (like the free hosting for Star Wars fansites that they were offering years ago). They should keep the Star Wars website free and make it just for news, photos, and the occasional movie files. (My God, how does Startrek.com afford to run a website without subscriptions?!) Then, they can beef up the Insider with the articles that used to be posted to Hyperspace. And because it will be good, subscriptions to the Insider will go up!
I think I need to send a letter to someone in Lucasland.
